Dear Vivien,
This was really a 5***** vacation. Everything was great: the house, the wonderful garden, the view, the neighbourhood and of course the Italian food.
Many thanks for your excellent service. We mentioned there was no sun umbrella in the private garden and one (!) hour later you had bought a brand new one!
We all agree we will certainly return to this lovely place in the future.
Best wishes and looking forward to meet you again.
Kristini and Tork Norway August 2010
Thank you so much for your warm hospitality and excellent accommodation in the Villa Isella! We really appreciated the warm welcome last Friday with chilled Prosecco (our all time favourite drink) and the delicious barbeque.
During the week we have found good itiniaries in your “black book” and have ventured off to Lugano, Como, Refuggio Menaggio, had excellent take aways from La Solitaira and so on.
We hope to be back soon. Meanwhile keep up the good work and spirit!
Hans & Family. The Netherlands. August 2010
Thank you very much for your warm welcome. We enjoyed staying in your excellent apartment. The kids loved swimming in the pool. We especially enjoyed visiting Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo. For good pizza's we recommend La Solatairia. For a special restaurant La Taverna in Cima, good daily fish specials. So much more to do here, we will be back.
Barker Family. East Yorkshire. UK. August 2010
We have really enjoyed our week in Villa Isella staying in your beautiful apartment which is so beautifully presented. Really appreciated the fresh flowers. Lots of happy memories of our visits to Como, Milan, Menaggio & Bellagio but especially just lazing round the pool & barbecuing in the lovely grounds.
Looking forward to a return visit next year!
Thornton Family. England. August 2010
We all loved the 'al fresco' eating and the barbecue. Your warm welcome set the tone for a lovely relaxing week with super accommodation and a delightful garden.
Helena loved the pool and the mountain views.
Miles loved the pool, the great oak tree and lizard hunting.
The boat trips from Menaggio were great fun and Carol absolutely loved the lakeside town of Varenna with its' medieval streets.
An excellent location from which to explore the region and local attractions. In my opinion, the greatest asset of Villa Isella is the peaceful surroundings and spectacular views.
A great place to unwind and enjoy quality time with the family.
Kosinski Family. England. July 2011
Vivien, thank you very much for all your help. We had everything we needed. Cherub Apartment was lovely. The views from the garden were amazing.
I loved playing in the swimming pool with my brother we had a fun time and made lots of friends.
Van de Griendt Family. Holland. July 2011.
Vivien, we also loved Cherub Apartment as everyone mentions, the views are lovely, the apartment is so well equipped. It's home from home. Very happy that you had all the baby equipment and lovely touches like a selection of good 'holiday' books, DVD's and C.D's.
Thanks for shopping and allowing us to eat in the restaurant when we arrived late.
I will recommend your place to all my friends!!
The kids loved the pool even baby Seb! xx
Gunnewijk Family. The Netherlands. July/August 2011
What a lovely and unique place you have here! We really enjoyed this week with the great swimming pool, our own private garden and the beautiful views. Thank you for your excellent service, the fresh flowers, the prosecco – we really appreciated this! And thanks for welcoming such a big family in your apartment.
All the kids loved this place and would like to come back some day! Best regards.
Davina, Nick & Family. England. August 2011
Thank you Vivien – Cherub is a lovely apartment, decorated and with superb surroundings. Excellent customer service from initial phone call to week of stay. Lovely personal touches and recommendations – meringata al forno, at La Rotonda and the cookery class in Varenna were absolutely me! The lads loved the “chill-factor” – no need for golf. Fantastico!!
The Martin Family. Leeds. England. August 2011
What a fantastic find! The location is superb and Cherub apartment is exquisite. We have had a wonderful holiday and we all enjoyed ourselves. We couldn't keep the girls out of the swimming pool and dinner at La Rotonda because a habit! (A.V. Good one!)
Benvenuti Family. England. June 2012.
The apartment is perfect, beautifully equipped and the view is to die for! Thanks Viv, you thought of everything, shame you couldn't sort the weather for us!
Perfect holiday, perfect villa and perfect host. We will be back!
Johansen Family. Oslo. Norway July 2012.
Wish we could have stayed longer but unfortunately our stay at Villa Isella is “...finito...” – at least this time around as we would love to return!
You have been very kind to us and our stay would not have been the same without your personal touch, like the fresh flowers and welcoming bottle of Prosecco.
Walking over to “La Rotonda” in the evening, the neighbour's little farm, enjoying a good Italian meal and returning in the dark will not be forgotten.
Mike, Fiona, Peter & Louise. West Yorkshire. England. August 2012-08-11
Vivien, we had had a great time. The weather was brilliant, the pool was fab and La Rotonda was AMAZING! You were so helpful, thank you for everything especially making the apartment so special, we would come back again! All your recommendations were brilliant and we had a great time on the boat along Lake Como. Salute!
Ball Family. Bristol. England. August 17th 2012
Dear Vivien
We have all enjoyed staying in this lovely apartment and I love the little garden with the beautiful flowers. The interior and equipment in Cherub is excellent and very relaxing. Thanks to you also for your kindness and generosity and for making us feel most welcome. Sam loved catching the lizards and Daniel is now our BBQ king! Most relaxing time was spent by the pool.
Best wishes.
Armstrong Family. Kent. England. 25th August 2012.
Thank you so much for letting us stay in your lovely apartment. The location is simply stunning and very relaxing. We found everything we needed and more and you were on hand for any tips and kindly booking us a restaurant. You made us feel very welcome. The girls had a wonderful holiday and really enjoyed the swimming pool and made friends with other children here. We chose on day to hire a boat for the whole day and we had a fantastic day exploring Lake Como and swimming in the lake – well worth the money!
Thanks so much.
T & L. Kent. England. 2nd September 2012.
Thanks for a smashing stay and the rescue job! Lovely apartment and the only downside is seeing your chess set – has cost me a small fortune. Will strongly recommend this place to others.
All the best, T & L.

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area region
Villa Isella is situated in an ideal location in the Italian lake district of the Pre Alps. Perfect for both summer and winter vacations. More often than not, the clear blue skies and wonderful views that surround the villa are perfect if you just want to relax or tour the area.
The Swiss border is just 15mins drive and the elegant town of Lugano offers a casino, chic shops, restaurants and bars. Carry on a little further (20mins from Lugano) to Luino, on the shores of Lake Maggiore especially on Wednesday, the town's market day, which is well worth a visit.
Menaggio (Lake Como) and Porlezza (Lake Lugano) are just a few mins away and both offer cafe bars, restaurants, ice cream parlours, banks and shops. The interesting market in Porlezza, along the shore of Lake Lugano, is held on Saturday morning.
From the nearby port of Menaggio, you can take one of the many boat trips to Bellagio, Varenna or the beautiful city of Como on a fast or slow ferry and visit the many attractions along the way and enjoy the Italian cafe culture and fine Italian cuisine.
Many guests take a one day trip to Milan for sight seeing and shopping either by car or by the train from Lugano and all said it was very enjoyable well worth the visit.
The Menaggio / Lago Di Piano area
Explore Menaggio at your leisure, relax on the waterfront, sip cappuccini in Piazza Garibaldi, people watch, absorb the history and elegance.
Travel by ferry, or hire your own boat and explore this wonderful place. Drop off at restaurants, chat to locals or for the more active try some water sports. For golfing enthusiasts the wonderful course in Croce (just a few minutes drive from Villa Isella) is open to non members.
Menaggio is about half way up the western side of Lago di Como, an attractive and thriving town in the summer months and little more quiet in the winter! The heart of the "old" town gathered around Piazza Garibaldi close to Menaggio's harbour features mostly 19th century buildings in the Italian alpine style painted in muted tones.
The higher part of the town has a more medieval aspect featuring narrow alleys, steep stairs and stone buildings. The old and "new", the shops, restaurants, cafes, public squares and alleyways, the tree shaded lake shore promenades bordered by flowers, and the well-kept villas form a wonderful and serene place to be.
Menaggio, although peaceful and relaxing (sit in the square and watch the pace of life) there's is still lots to do in and around Menaggio. You can enjoy walks through the town and its numerous gardens. Along the way you can take a look at some of Menaggio's lovely little churches: San Stefano (17th century), San Giusto and San Carlo accompanied by a beautiful bell tower and the ruins of a medieval castle above the town is also worth a visit.
Italian one day cookery course can be arranged which includes lunch with wine.
Speed boat hire for 1hr plus or sailing a yacht with a skipper on Lago di Como can also be arranged.
Beautiful places to see and visit:
VILLA BALBIANELLO is the most beautiful romantic villa in the world. Built for Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini at the end of the XVIII century, the Villa stands on the tip of a steep promontory overlooking Lake Como, almost opposite Bellagio. Today, the villa has the appearance desired by its last owner, the explorer Guido Monzino, with a rich collection of Chinese, African and pre-Colombian art, precious English and French furniture of the 1700s and the small museum with documents and mementoes of his expeditions. Yet the true masterpiece is the panoramic terraced garden dominated by the elegant "loggia" with three arches rising on the highest point of the promontory.
VILLA MONASTREO is situated on the lake side at Varenna on the way to Fiumelatte. This is directly across the lake from Menaggio. The villa, as the name indicates, was a Cistercian convent dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene. It was founded in 1208 by a group of faithful followers who had escaped from Comacina Island, after the Island was destroyed during the war between Milan and Como.
VILLA CARLOTTA is situated in the town Tremezzo, a short drive or ferry ride away. The villa and the gardens date from the fist half of the 18th century and were built for the Marchese Clerici as a summer home away from Milan. The 18th century gardens were laid out in the former classical Italian style. The neoclassical villa stands above three terraces linked to the lake along the central axis by a series of double stairways with imposing balustrades.
VILLA SERBELLONI is situated on the wooded promontory of Bellagio which divides the lake in 2 branches. This is across and slightly to the right of Menaggio and a 5 minute Ferry ride. The villa is surrounded by approximately 50 acres of park and garden; the main house has a breathtaking view of the lake and the mountains. The villa was built in 1605 for the owners of the promontory, the Sfondratis, and in 1788 it was bought by the Serbellonis, a Milanese family who developed the property and the garden much as it is today.
Use the ferries if possible for the most relaxing day as they run between all the most popular places.
