From the owner

The holiday cottage is a former croft house set amid working croft land with outstanding sea views across the Minch (sea) to the Isle of Skye and the Outer Isles. Located 8 miles north of Gairloch on the road to Melvaig and the Rua Reidh Lighthouse. The cottage is located in the quiet community of Melvaig.

The Wester Ross area, which is in the Scottish Highlands, is a designated area of natural beauty. This is a spectacular mountain area with a dramatic coastline. There are many small sandy beaches and fantastic places to walk and mountaineer. The Torridon mountains lie to the south and Ullapool and the mountains of the far north are about 1.5 hours drive away. Gairloch is a great place to be based to explore the North West Scottish Highlands from Skye to the far north. A car is essential; the traffic however is negligible. For hillwalkers the cottage is close to a number of Munros, Corbetts and lesser hills, including The Fannichs, An Teallach, Slioch, The Fisherfield Mountains and, as noted above, the Torridon Mountains. Walking in the area is superb and there are walks for all abilities.

The location is perfect for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits on the water, cycling, walking, sightseeing, bird and whale watching or for those who just want to get away from it all. Wildlife is in abundance particularly bird and sea life. The area was featured on the bbc one Show in 2013 for whale and dolphin spotting at as well as coverage of Loch Ewe, the Russian Arctic Convoys which sailed form Loch Ewe. Some of the scenes in the 2014 bbc film 'What we did on our Holidays' was filmed at Redpoint Beach near Gairloch.

The beach at Melvaig is only five minutes walk. It has a small slipway for launching boats. It is ideal location for Sea Kayaking. Both seals and otters have been seen on the shore at Melvaig in recent years.

Further along the coast is a sandy beach a Peterburn. On a summers day you are likely to only have to share it with a few sheep :) There is also a short climbing pitch with bolts.

We have many families from the UK and abroad and get great feedback. In the two years we have let the cottage we have had no adverse comments and everyone seems to love the cottage. Having stayed in many holiday cottages over the years we have tried to equip the cottage with everything you might need to enjoy your stay.

The cottage has three bedrooms comfortably sleeping 5 (up to 6 people maximum) and has a cosy sitting room and a dining kitchen. The sitting room is has a window seat and a Morso wood burning stove. The seat adds greatly to the sitting room and gives somewhere to sit and relax and watch the boats go by and look out for passing whales.

The cottage is available every week from early March to until the end of November. Christmas & New Year weeks also available. Unfortunately we cannot do short lets or weekend lets - rental is from Saturday to Saturday only, with the exception of Christmas and New Year.

We are pet owners ourselves however due to inconsiderate previous guests we are not willing to accept pets at the cottage.

How do damage deposits work?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Linda (the owner) a message.

If Linda (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
