The Scottish Borders region

Melrose is one of the most attractive towns in the Borders, and is renowned for the Eildon Hills, River Tweed, and beautiful surrounding countryside, interspersed with historical buildings.

For the size of the town, it boasts a wealth of good eateries, shops cafes and pubs.

There are various festivals throughout the year, including rugby 7's, Book festival, Melrose festival, and pipeband competition.

It is also very accessible to Edinburgh, making it an ideal stop-over for the festival held there in August, or a visit to Scotland's capital city.

As well as rugby, the Borders is known for its many golf courses. Many of the courses offer a 3-5 day "Freedom of the Fairways" pass at a competitive price.

Salmon fishing on the Tweed is a popular past-time.

Bicycles can be hired from the chain bridge, which links Melrose with the picturesque village of Gattonside, which has 2 restaurants.

There is a good bus service throughout the local towns.
