Situated in the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders, Abbotsford’s Hope Scott Wing is the perfect luxury accommodation for groups of up to 16 guests on a self-catering basis.

Once home to Sir Walter Scott’s granddaughter, Charlotte Hope Scott, the Hope Scott Wing retains the intimacy and integrity of a family home, while introducing all the essentials of modern-day comfort. Guests can relax in a unique combination of the personal and the historical in this intimate country retreat, which still retains many of its original features, as well as Scott family belongings, including original artworks and furniture.

A range of bespoke itineraries and catering services including banquets in Scott’s magnificent dining room, exclusive access to the gardens, clay pigeon shooting, guided tours, hot tub hire and even a personal chef can also be arranged.

There are seven luxurious bedrooms and six bathrooms. With the exception of the four-poster bedroom, all the rooms can be made into double or twins rooms at your request. There is also an additional adjoining eighth queen-sized bedroom, perfect for a young family or close friends. Special arrangements can be made for two extra children's beds.

The public rooms include a sumptuous drawing room, a formal dining room seating 16, a reading room and a billiard room. There is also a spacious, breakfast kitchen with plenty of room for informal dining, a private courtyard and a private patio garden.

Guests can bring up to three dogs that can enjoy their stay on the lower ground floor of the Wing, equipped with two dog beds, dog bowls and grooming equipment. Our magnificent woodland areas and picturesque gardens provide plenty of open space for dogs to enjoy and they will receive a warm welcome at our on-site café.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback following your stay.  We are concerned to hear about the points you mention regarding our Covid safety measures.  Creating a safe environment for our guests is our priority and we have undertaken a comprehensive risk assessment of our accommodation in accordance with Government and industry guidelines.  We have introduced additional cleaning measures to ensure we are providing a Covid safe environment.  For example, we undertake meticulous cleaning of the kitchen and any shared items between each set of guests, use a recommended cleaning product effective against the virus in high touch point locations and provide hand sanitiser in all our public rooms.  All guests are also asked to put used linen and towels in a designated location before departure.  All our contractors are obliged to follow Covid safe working practices while on site and though it is inevitable that sometimes work needs to be done, any proximity of staff and contractors with guests is done with prior notice and as per our Covid risk assessments. We aim to provide our guests with the confidence and reassurance that the accommodation will be presented to an industry leading standard.

Thank you very much for the glowing review. It was lovely to meet you and all of your family and friends (including all of the dogs!). The Wing is really well equipped for a large group to come and stay and as you found there are lots of lovely walks on the estate and nearby. It was unfortunate regarding the fire evacuation but not many guests experience our local fire service attending to wish them Happy Birthday! I am pleased to hear you would like to return to stay and I look forward to welcoming you back again to the Wing. Carole

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If the property manager agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
