About this location
The Dorset region
West Dorset is the perfect holiday location with uncrowded beaches, miles of unspoilt Heritage Coast, pretty harbours and little villages seemingly untouched by time. Lovely old houses, museums and houses to explore, excellent sea fishing off the long expanse of Chesil Beach or from nearby fishing lakes.
There are countless places of interest to visit in West Dorset – the sub-tropical gardens or swannery at Abbotsbury, for instance, or Hardy's Cottage. Lyme Regis, with its famous Cobb, immortalised in "The French Lieutenant's Woman". Weymouth, Portland Bill and Bournemouth are conveniently placed for a day out. If you wish to venture further afield, there is Brownsea Island or other National Trust properties to visit, or even a day trip from Weymouth to the Channel Islands.
Nearby, the local Palmers brewery, is the only brewery to have a thatched roof and offers tours (and samples) which you will not want to miss. West Bay, the pretty harbour of Bridport, was once used as the setting for "Harbour Lights", with Nick Berry portraying the Harbour Master, whilst television celebrity chef, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall was filmed near Binghams Farm in "Return to River Cottage". Bridport market is held Saturdays and Wednesdays in the town and there is an annual Carnival and Show.
Located in the West of Dorset and yet on the dramatic Jurassic coast Bridport is a thriving market town with food and arts events all year round. Market days are Wednesdays and Saturday with something to entice everyone.
Supermarkets include Morrisons, Waitrose, Co-op and Lidl with Tesco delievery service available. Local Butchers and Fruit & Veg shops are locate within the town centre and the award winning Washingpool farm shop is 4 kms away.
With many restaurants, bars and cafes on offer with tastes and price bands to suit all.

"5* accommodation and doggy holiday heaven"
Lisa & Alistair made us so welcome and gave us advice on where to visit and recommended pubs etc. We were looking for somewhere which was good quality accommodation that we could take our dog Bert, with a wood burner and near the sea wow we weren't disappointed!! Roe barn is beautiful with a spacious safe garden for the dog to round around. Look forward to going back in the future.

My husband and I had no idea what part of the country we wanted to spend a week in when searching for our ideal property. We had certain ideas about what we wanted the property to look like and what features it had inside. We also wanted to take one of our dogs and so we needed somewhere that was dog friendly with outside fenced in garden area and a place where you could walk for miles in the unspoiled countryside. We also had a price in mind like many do when choosing a place to stay. BINGO........up popped Roe Barn and we did not hesitate to book. It had everything we were looking for and the reviews were excellent. Communication prior to holiday was excellent. On arrival, we were greeted with homemade mince pies and the Barn had a few decorations to remind us of Christmas which was lovely. Lisa, the owner, popped over to introduce herself after about an hour of being there and explained everything we needed to know. She was extremely helpful and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.....even when we had to knock on their door when some of the electrics went; she came straight over and sorted it for us immediately. The garden is absolutely huge with loads of space for our dog and there is also a gate in the garden which leads to the owners paddock area where we were free to go and play with our dog Benson. The property was outstandingly clean with excellent decor and all mod cons that you could wish for.....the endless supply of logs is also a bonus as a lot of places charge a minimum of £5 per basket, although the barn was so warm with its under floor heating, we did not need the fire much! The only complaints I can find about our stay here was the weather and the fact that it is not nearer to home so we could go more often! Unfortunately, these were beyond Alistair's and Lisa's control! The only two minor negative comments I have is that the TV in the lounge was rather small for such a good size property as most of us are now used to at least 32" TV's if not bigger, but having sky was a bonus, although I wasn't used to not being able to pause live TV, especially when I had to hold off from running to the bathroom until the adverts of the x factor live final!!! In all honesty, we did not go there to watch TV but because we had a lot of bad weather, we watched a bit more than we planned and so it would have been nice to have a bigger TV. The other comment was that I would have liked to have slept in the beautiful almost hideaway bedroom upstairs but the bed was extremely small compared to the one downstairs and so we opted for the larger bed. However, this room is just as nice so don't let that put you off! This place is a must and i cannot recommend it enough. Everything you could wish for and a bit extra, all for a really good price. We will definitely be returning in the very near future and I wouldn't even bother looking for anywhere else.
