The Island of Malta region
Mellie?a. is a rural village in the North-Western region of Malta and its name derives from the Semitic root "m-l-h" which in Arabic means salt. The name was probably adopted because of the ancient salt-terns the Punics and Romans had established at G?adira - the large sandy bay lying at the foot of the village.
Further north from St Paul's Bay lies one of Malta's most picturesque tourist destinations, Mellieha. It sits atop a hill overlooking the North end of the Island and is an attractive hilltop village with a central street winding downhill. The town centre boasts of its splendid hotels, fine restaurants and traditional cute shops. It has a unique primary school, a majestic baroque church (built in late 19th century) and various cultural organizations, including band clubs, sports clubs, an orchestra, various religious societies, a parish community centre and an environmental pressure group. It is also surrounded by fertile valleys and most spots provide good panoramas of the countryside, the Bay (which has the longest beach in Malta) and northwards towards Comino and Gozo. Recent developments, together with one of the best villa estates in Malta, have made the town popular with Maltese and visitors alike. One can also find some good restaurants,
Mellieha St Maria Estate is a quite place to stay.
The beach is minutes away from the bungalow.
A bus stop is near the bungalow to go to Mellieha centre and to Valletta
