La Maison Jaune, which is approximately 200 years old is situated between the towns of Melle and Chef Boutonne. The gite has three rooms, lounge/diner, bedroom, kitchen and conservatory with access to a small rear garden area and the main garden. For those looking for a base while searching for that home in the sun then we can point you to several local Immobiliers [estate agents]. There are several local markets nearby which open on different days, information which we can give you if you should need it. In the gite you will find brochures of a variety of tourist attractions. Local restaurants serving traditional French food are just a short drive away as are all local amenities such as supermarkets, post office, bars etc. [10 / 15 minute drive]. Poitiers, La Rochelle and the Ille D'Oleron with its fantastic beaches are all within an hours drive. The lovely riverside town of Coulon is a 50 minute drive and if you like your zoos then Zoodessy and the Valley of the monkeys are within easy driving distance. There are a lot of quaint French villages to explore and the driving on French roads is so relaxing, none of that road rage over here.

The area is located in the heart of the Poitou-Charentes. The department of the Deux-Sevres is an area of mystery for many visitors. Those who have been lucky enough to discover its many tourist sites, sheltered within an unspoilt countryside, will tell you that it is well worth the long drive or flight.
Melle area
Melle is famous for its' silver mines and is a very pretty town with several nice places to eat.. It also has itys own market every Saturday. But don't worry if you think you'll miss out, believe me, there are many others, Lezay every Tuesday morning, selling everything from local fresh produce , shoes, clothes and livestock. The nearest supermarkets are in Melle, both SuperU and Intermarche, as well as a post office, banks, chemists, doctors, Canoeing & swimming are available at the lake in Lambon. The Ile De Re, Ille D'Oleron and La Rochelle with their huge beaches on the Atlantic Coast are about an hours' drive away with the spectacular "Green Venice" (Marais Poitevin) only a 40 minutes drive. An hour to the south is Cognac and Jarnac with its several distilleries offering guided tours, including the famous Hennessy, Martell and Remy Martin. Wildlife parks, historical buildings, chateaux, museums, aquariums, golf courses at Les Forges [45 minutes], Niort [35 minutes] and theme parks make this area the perfect choice for that very relaxing holiday.
How to get there
Airports include La Rochelle [ 70 mins], Poitier [50 mins], Limoges [90 mins]. The TGV goes into Poitier direct from Paris and hire car facilities are readily available in Poitier. Driving from Poitier or La Rochelle is relatively easy. Driving from La Rochelle is longer but a very pleasant drive. Directions from any airport or train station will be sent upon confirmation of booking.
BY ROAD : FERRY PORTS : St Malo : 5 1/2 hours. Caen : 5 1/2 hours. Le Havre : 6 hours. Cherbourg : 6 1/2 hours. Boulogne/Calais via Rouen & Le Mans :just over 6 hours.

Further details indoors: The gite although attached to the main house has its own separate access with a self contained kitchen area containing fridge, cooker and micro wave. There is a table which seats up to four people. Off the main lounge area is the bedroom which has a double bed [another single bed can be made available if needed] and an en suite. From the lounge area you have the conservatory and this leads you out into a private garden and rear entrance to the property where you park your car. There is a TV and DVD / video player. You have the choice of bringing your own DVDs or borrowing our own at a small deposit. We do provide a welcome pack on arrival free of charge, milk, eggs etc. The bedroom has a comfortable double bed and an additional single or/and a baby cot can be provided. Linen and towels are provided as are cutlery and crockery. Please remember when driving through France that most shops are closed on Sundays so it is well to be prepared by stocking up with those extra little necessities you may need. For that totally restful visit we recommend that you take your time and drive halfway, stop at Rennes or any other little town for the night and arrive here on the Sunday after another relaxing drive down through France or if you don't mind that long drive from the ferry ports then by all means we will be ready for you.
Further details outdoors: There is a very large garden for the children to play safely and a swing seat for the adults for those relaxing evenings where, with a glass of wine in your hand you can watch the evening sunset. There are many walks around the area and Chef Boutonne and Melle are both just a 10 minute drive away. There are: sun loungers BBQ

Arrival after 3pm. Departures before 11am. 25% deposit secures your booking. Balance payable 8 weeks before arrival by post. Payment can be made in pounds or euros. £100 security deposit is payable on arrival and refundable on the day of departure provided there has been no damage or breakages.
Conditions
A 25% deposit is required to confirm your booking and the balance required 6 weeks before your arrival. A refundable breakages deposit of 100 euros is required on your arrival and will be returned to you on the date of your departure minus funding for any breakages [ subject to a satisfactory property inspection before you leave]. An email receipt will be sent to you on arrival of the booking fee.
