The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region
As well as its varied and preserved scenery, the Deux -Sevres has an exceptional historic inheritance. From the most imposingTumulus in Europe to its Romanesque churches, chateaux, museums and behind every stone history, legend and past adventures.
The Deux- Sevres has been for centuries a strategic territory which has left a rich history behind.
The southern Deux Sevres is a recently discovered (by tourists) area of France, a rural region with all its charms still intact. Another benefit is that it has a micro climate that gives it the most sunny days after the south of France.
Melle / Lezay area
We are situated between the market town of Lezay and the historic town of lusignan famous for its story of the"fée de limousine.
The market town of Lezay has the second largest "Marché aux Veau" in Europe and is a meeting place each Tuesday for local people and has the feel of a real farmers market with its bars and street market.
Lusignan with its historic centre and river side ,which offers canoe and kayak hire is well worth a visit. The local area, with its many "chemins calcaires" (limestone roads) is excellent for walking, cycling and observing the local flora, fauna, countryside, chateaux, fortified farms, and rural architecture.
The "Trois Pigeons" a gastronomic restaurant (logis de france) famous in the region, will be nearly on your doorstep. If that is not to your taste there are many more bar/ restaurants within close proximity.
The "Futuroscope" theme park is in easy reachas are the following places to visit, Tumuls de Bougon, silver mines, arboritum and old churches of Melle, Roman remains at Sanaxay, green venise, museum of Raurarnum at Rom and the milatary museum at Melle.
