Situated in mature grounds of 7 acres Les Chenes is the perfect base for exploring the beautiful region of Poitou Charentes. Newly renovated for 2005, yet retaining original features like : flagstone floors, exposed beams, stone walls and fireplaces, it offers a comfortable stay with all the tradition you would want from an old French farmhouse.
A rural setting allows peace and quiet to relax and unwind.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region
Poitou Charentes is a wonderful place to visit for all the family. From walking in the countryside to high tech theme parks (Futuroscope 40 min drive) the area caters for all types of holiday makers. Some places of interest are:
Poitiers (45mns): Enjoy its Roman, Romanesque, Medieval Heritage, its pleasant atmosphere or simply its nice shopping centres.
La Rochelle (60mns) : Beautiful heritage, its port, superb aquarium, great ambiance and lots of good restaurants.
Ile de Re: lovely, sandy beaches, perfect for bike rides and in summer a very trendy location.
La Venise Verte (45mns): Beautiful peaceful canals and lawns, for canoeing, biking, hiking and horseback riding.
La Vallee des Singes (20mns) : A well designed park with a vast selection of monkeys.
Bougon (25mns) : An impressive Neolithic site where you will find several large tumuli and a well designed museum. Roman, Gallo-Roman sites, Sanxay: (20 mins) An impressive Gallo-Roman site well worth the visit as well as the pretty little town with several 16th C houses.
Cognac (70mns): Its vineyards and cellars.
Golf at Chateau les Forges: 40mns.
In short, you will find miles of Atlantic coastline, beautiful towns and villages and the friendliest locals you could wish to meet to make this area truly special.
Mid summer temperatures average at 25 degrees celsius.
Melle / Sepvret area
The local romanesque town of Melle, with it's world renowned church (Unesco listed) has restaurants, bars, shops, a swimming pool and a weekly market. The ancient silver mines of Melle gives an informative look into medievil times (the only one open to the public in Europe). There is also an Arboretum in Melle.
The activity park of " Lac Lambon" offers a beach, swimming, boating, fishing, restaurant and play areas. This is situated 10 min drive from the house.
Rom (10mns) : The region's second largest Roman town after Poitiers, its little museum features many of the archiological finds.
Karting: 15mns, Horseback riding: 10 mns.
Lezay (10 mins): A large, colourful market takes place every Tuesday morning, you will also find the following activities : tennis, riding, fishing.
And there is a good selection of local restaurants!

Further details indoors: Les Chenes is a traditional French farmhouse which has been completely renovated to a very high standard. It has two kitchens which are both fully equipped with cooker, fridge freezer and dishwasher. All cooking equipment is provided e.g. Pans, cutlery, crockery, tea towels etc. Two separate utility rooms have washing machines, ironing boards, irons and downstairs loos.
In the dining room there is a traditional table with benches large enough for 16 people.
The lounge is south facing and fully furnished with all you would expect incl; t.v., d.v.d player, d.v.ds, books and games. Exposed beams, feature stone walls and fireplace with wood burning stove. The bedrooms have comfortable boxspring beds (90 x200) that can be connected to lits-jumeaux. All bedding and towels are provided. Travel cots are available.
The cottage "four a pain" has its own private garden with a terrace by the kitchen with double doors for lovely late night dinners outside. The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped. A downstairs bedroom and two upstairs bedrooms gives room for 6 people. With its 170 m2 the cottage gives you and your family plenty of space.
Further details outdoors: The private garden (about half an acre) has lots of mature trees which give excellent shade in the hot summer months. Own barbeque, pergola, table and chairs.
We invite guests to help themselves to any fruit growing (apricots, cherries, pears, apples and plums). Fresh grown veg is available (free) and guests are also invited to help themselves to eggs from the chicken coup.
Also available to share with the owners of the property are: swimming pool, table tennis, boules pitch and children's play area.

The Cottage and the gite are available all year round.
Smokers are welcome, but smoking is not allowed inside.

For large groups (16 people) the farmhouse is available through the months of July and August 2008. PRICE: £1,800.00 per week.
The cottage is available all year round. Long term lets are possible in the winter period. Please enquire.
