About the home

Fern cottage, which is approximately 200 years old, has recently been refurbished to provide a comfortable and peaceful atmosphere on the edge of the picturesque village of Paizay Le Tort. The semi-rural setting further enhances the tranquillity of the property with views across open countryside. A private garden area, which is child safe, is provided where you can relax under the old grape vine while dining al fresco (a private BBQ is provided) or just watching the local wildlife and magnificent sunsets.
The cottage comprises of a fitted kitchen/diner, lounge, toilet and shower room on the ground floor with a double bedroom and a twin bedroom on the first floor. The traditional construction ensures that the cottage stays cool during the summer months however the log fire ensures a warm cozy atmosphere throughout the winter.

Local restaurants serving traditional french food are just a short drive away as are all local amenities such as supermarkets post office etc.

A full size English cot with safety mattress and bedding is also available along with a high chair.

Pool towels provided free of charge.
The pool is above ground, approximately 6.5m by 4m with a depth of 1m and is heated with a solar panel.
Garden furniture is provided in the private garden with sun loungers, table and chairs being provided at the pool area.

Welcome pack and an evening meal with wine provided on day of arrival for stays of one week or longer.
English speaking owners on hand to answer any questions.
An extensive selection of DVDs, games and books are available to borrow from our library.

Conditions

25% of the rental fee is payable at time of booking with the balance being payable 8 weeks prior to first day of holiday.
In addition a refundable breakages deposit of £150 is required at the time of final payment. This deposit will be refunded within two weeks of your departure (subject to a satisfactory property inspection)

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Deux Sevres region

Ideally located in the heart of the Poitou-Charentes, the department of the Deux-Sevres remains an enigma, a land of secrets for many visitors. Those who have been lucky enough to discover its many tourist sites, sheltered within an unspoilt countryside, will tell you that it is well worth the journey.

The many attractions of the area include Poitiers a town with over a hundred church towers and full of surprises. Partially built on a rocky promontory, inhabited for over 2000 years each generation has left its marks. With the close proximity of the Futuroscope theme park, the nautical base of Saint-Cyr, the aquatic centre and its golf courses make Poitier a favoured destination.
The Ile De Re and La Rochelle with their extensive beaches on the Atlantic Coast are about an hours' drive away with the spectacular "Green Venice" (Marais Poitevin) only a pleasant 40 minutes drive. An hour to the south is Cognac with its several distilleries offering guided tours, including the famous Hennessy, Martell and Remy Martin. Wildlife parks, historical buildings, chateaux, museums, aquariums, golf courses and theme parks make this area the perfect choice for that very special holiday.

The Melle / Paizay-le-Tort area

Fall under the spell of Romanesque art. The Melle region caters to every taste and every age. Sample the culture as you discover the Romanesque churches,the abbey, the historical villages and museums in the area. Alternatively you can opt for relaxation and fun at the numerous recreation areas and lakeside resorts.
For those wishing to sample the local produce a visit to the local markets in Lezay and Melle is a must where you can enjoy the ambience of a typical french market and can purchase anything from livestock to clothing.

Fern Cottage is situated on the outskirts of the the village of Paizay Le Tort which is approximately 4kms from Melle. The area is serviced by the following Airports and airlines with Poitiers approximately 40 mins drive away, then La Rochelle at just over an hours drive away, and finally Limoges being approximately an hour and a half away. The remaining airports of Bergerac, Bordeux and Nantes are at least two hours drive away.
