The Dorset region
The spectacular Jurassic Coast in Dorset and East Devon is England's first natural World Heritage Site. This unique stretch of coastline sits amongst the ranks of the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon as one of the wonders of the natural world. The coastline is world famous for its fossils. Chesil Beach, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are among the 'must see' locations along this spectacular 95 mile stretch of coastline.
Visit coastal towns such as Weymouth, Lyme Regis and Bridport with their mix of colourful harbours, sandy beaches and seaside fun, or head inland and discover our fascinating market towns.Enjoy unique shopping and farmers' markets, amazing architecture and plenty of places to eat out and sample the local produce. There aren't many areas that can claim a huge naked chalk giant, a coastline where you can follow in the footsteps of dinosaurs and the largest hillfort in Europe - but with the vast scope of Dorset's heritage you will discover these and much much more!
The Dorset landscape has long been the inspiration for many authors and poets and more recently for TV and film producers. Above all, this is Thomas Hardy country - ancient Wessex, home of the Mayor of Casterbridge, Tess of the D'urbervilles and Jude the Obscure. You will find many other famous literary associations across the area including Jane Austen, John Fowles, TE Lawrence and Enid Blyton.
There are some outstanding places to visit in Dorset where you can soak up the atmosphere of bygone eras. Major ancient and historic sites include the impressive Maiden Castle hillfort, Pilsdon Pen, Eggardon Hill and Hambledon and Hod Hills - the views alone are worth the steep climb! A steam train ride with Swanage Railway gives you unique views of Corfe Castle's imposing ruins.
Melbury Osmond is a beautiful Dorset village where Thomas Hardy's mother lived as a child. The village appears in his novel, “The Woodlanders” as “Little Hintock”. The village has a recreation ground with a play park and playing field. Guests are welcome to use the smart village tennis court, please bring your own racquets and balls. A walk through the nearby deer park to the historic village of Evershot with its pub, The Acorn Inn, serving delicious food and regional ales is a must. "A wonderful peaceful holiday"
We had a wonderful week at East View Barn recently. The cottage is beautiful and extremely well equipped - they've thought of everything a visitor could need. We loved the location - Melbury Osmond is gorgeous and so peaceful. We walked into Melbury Park most days with the dog and found lots of local pubs with good food. We loved Sherborne and the coast is only about 45 minutes away too. All in all, a great trip and we hope to visit again soon.
Thank you so much for sharing your holiday memories. We are delighted that you loved our chocolate box thatched cottage and the beautiful surroundings of Melbury Osmond and Melbury Park. We look forward to welcoming you back to stay again in the future...cosy winter breaks are equally as lovely and there are Halloween fireworks at Melbury Park this year.

"Chocolate box cottage"
Well what can I say what a gem such a beautiful cottage in a lovely village and in a very peaceful location. Could not have asked for more. From booking the cottage Kerry was so helpful in every aspect. We needed a rest after a dreadful 3 months and this holiday has help so much. The cottage is well equipped with a great welcome hamper. We will return.
Thank you, we are delighted that you enjoyed our chocolate box cottage as well as the serenity and tranquillity of the location. We hope to welcome you back again soon for some more rest and relaxation in Dorset.

"Delightful cottage and thoughtful welcome"
We rented the cottage over Christmas and were delighted to find a beautifully decorated christmas tree and really yummy celebration goodies to welcome us. We were 5 people and one dog and it was a perfect size. We did not spend as much time in the cottage as I would have liked because we had family living nearby so went there a lot of the time but the kitchen worked well for breakfast, the fire was lovely to switch on when we returned in the evening and the location was brilliant both for easy access to the relatively nearby main road and for exercising our dog first thing. Would unhesitatingly recommend.
Thank you, we are delighted that you loved our cosy country cottage at Christmas and we hope to welcome you back for more family gatherings and celebrations in the future.
