The Victoria, Australia region
Situated in the Dandenong Ranges, Emerald is home to the Puffing Billy Steam Train. Emerald is a 3 minute drive from the end of Wellington Road, which runs into North Road. It is an easy straight drive from Melbourne along the Monash freeway, approximately a 45 minute drive.
Emerald is great to visit in all seasons.
In Summer, our fern clad gullies and tree canopy create a cooling atmosphere.
In Winter the steam from Puffing Billy, cosy cafes and great walking tracks through forests and around Emerald Lake create an ambience of going back in time. Emerald Lake also has its own model railway.
From Emerald you can visit all of the Dandenong ranges, all within 20 - 30 minutes drive. Daffodil and tulip farms, wineries, art galleries and wonderful cafes and restaurants
Emerald is host to the annual Pave festival, Puffing billy race, Gemco Theatre and Thomas the Tank Engine.
Emerald has Emerald Lake. Beautiful walks and marked bush tracks, take you through fern gullies and past chestnut trees. Ducks and wonderful bird life greet you at the lake and if you are a bit more active, a go on the paddle boats will build up an appetite for a warm coffee or evening meal in one of our fantastic local restaurants.
Cardinia Dam is fantastic for a picnic or bbq and spot the kangaroo, or bring a canoe onto Aura Vale lake. Both within 10 min drive.
And in the other direction we have Rickets Sanctuary, cafes nestled throughout the hills.
Emerald has its own wineries, golf courses and mountain bike tracks.
