This is a small, old terraced house, snuggling below the village church, in a little village road with hardly any traffic. It is located in a fishing village on the very tip of southern Istria. Its young, enthusiastic and energetic owners have just rescued the dilapidated old house and turned it into a fresh and airy residence without altering its original character of a cottage where a fisherman once lived. In parts they have left exposed stone walls which make the interior very interesting. The only twenty first century additions are nice bathrooms, internet and air-conditioning, the rest is as it once was.

The Istria region

The west coast of Istria is within easy reach. Many of the towns on this coast are communities first established in the Roman era or earlier but the dominant influence that can be seen today is Venetian. Most of the major coastal towns were under the control of the Venetian Republic during the medieval period. At the northern end of the coast the charming town of Novigrad is worth visiting; it has an attractive harbour crowded with local fishing boats and an old town surrounded by fortifications and on the outer side (away from the harbour) a lungamare (promenade) providing a pleasant walk along the coast and an ideal place to sunbathe and swim.

Further down the coast Rovinj is unquestionably the most picturesque of the medieval Venetian towns on the Adriatic. Every guide book features the colourful facades of the tightly packed houses that encircle this tiny peninsula with the cathedral of St Euphemia and its dominating 60 metre bell tower standing over the town.

Liznjan is located at the southern end of the Istrian peninsula about 15 minutes drive from Pula and Pula airport. Liznjan is a charming agricultural and fishing village about one kilometre from the coast. The village has several small shops providing a wide range of groceries as well as fresh bread and vegetables. There are several restaurants and cafe/bar. The tourist trade is restricted mainly to bed and breakfast and private apartments rental. The neighbouring village of Medulin (less than 2 kilometres distant) has a much more extensive tourist trade with several hotels and a wider range of shops, bars and restaurants. A number of activities are available locally including tennis and riding. There are well market cycle routes and some delightful country and coastal footpaths. There are scuba diving schools in Pula and Medulin.
