About the home

Medina Sidonia is a typical Spanish town that comes alive at night with several open air restaurants around the Plaza. Explore the narrow cobbled streets, the Roman ruins or visit the market. There are many good walks in the surrounding countryside. Sunbathe or have a barbecue on the roof terrace or drive 30 minutes to huge golden sandy beaches, great for surfing.

The roof terrace is also a wonderful place for bird watching with storks and eagles often seen. A short drive inland brings you to the mountains of the Grazalema National Park. From Tarifa, a 40 minute drive away, you can go whale watching or take a 35 minute ferry to Tangier in Morocco.

The lovely roof terrace has bbq, sun loungers, shower, dining table and chairs. Access is via a spiral staircase so may not be suitable for young children.

Below the house there is a secure underground car park with designated place. The house faces onto a large shared courtyard in typical Spanish style.

The Andalucia / Cadiz Province region

The Cadiz area of Andulcia borders the Atlantic coast and has over thirty miles of golden sandy beaches much of it unspoilt by development. There are safe family beaches as well as surfing and wind surfing areas.

The ancient cities of Cadiz and Jerez are full of archaeological and historic interest and Seville is only just over an hour away via the motorway.

From Tarifa, the southern most town in Spain it is only a 35 minutes ferry ride to Tangier in Morocco.The Alcornocales National Park which is the largest cork oak forest in Europe is good for hiking and wildlife spotting.

The Medina Sidonia area

Medina Sidonia is an ancient white hilltop Moorish town that dates back to pre-Roman times. The house is situated within the old walled town. There is a small Roman museum with a well preserved section of a roman road and sewers.

Medina has several traditional festivals every year. At Christmas the whole town is made to look like Bethlehem and the townspeople dress in period costume and act out tableaux.

There is a good choice of restaurants and bars around the main plaza and the town is very lively in the evenings when Spanish families gather to meet friends and relatives.

Several new roads now link Medina to Cadiz, Jerez and the coast , all around half an hours drive, making Medina the ideal centre to stay for a holiday in this area. There is a house file full of information about local activities and attractions.

Budget Ryan Air flights to Jerez Airport from Stanstead. The following car hire companies are available: Goldstar, Hertz, Crown. Easy 35minute drive to Medina, mostly on motorway.

Full directions will be sent on booking. Gibraltar and Seville Airports are around an hours drive away.
