About this location

The Lake District

The Woodlands Hotel and Pine Lodges is situated in the southern part of the Lake District national park with easy access to Windermere, Coniston, Bowness, Ambleside. An ideal situation for touring the beautiful English Lake district.

The scenery is as beautiful as any in the world, with the lakes providing a dramatic contrast to countryside which is ideal for walkers and nature lovers. Indeed, the magnificence of the landscape inspired some of the best known English artists, poets and philosophers. There is no lack of heritage either. You can visit stately homes and Gardens, castles, museums and art galleries in charming market towns which are home to many and varied local craft workshops.

There are facilities for many outdoor activities such as golf, tennis, fell walking, clay pigeon shooting, pony trekking, water sports, and much more.

Whateveryour personal tastes, you will always find something of interest for all the family.

The Woodlands Hotel and Pine Lodges is located in Meathop, a small hamlet about 2 miles from Grange-over-Sands which is one of the few small seaside towns in England that has remained relatively unspoiled by the march of time.

It first became popular in the Victorian age when the rich and well-heeled travelled from the grime of Manchester, Liverpool and other large centres of population to enjoy the peace, tranquility and fresh sea air. The town has managed to avoid becoming caught up in the usual proliferation of tacky tourist attractions that one normally associates with many English seaside towns, and therefore won't appeal to those looking for amusement arcades, Kiss-me-Quick hats and burger bars. In fact, it is the perfect base for those looking for a chance to savour a slower pace of life combined with olde worlde charm.

The ancient little market village of Cartmel is ony 2 miles away with its medieval Priory, quaint pubs and lovely square. There is a wonderful mile-long promenade, unchanged since the 1800s, well-maintained gardens & parks along with a selection of little shops and cafes where one can browse and relax. There are numerous lovely walks in the area. A leisurely stroll to the top of Hampsfell will reward you with breathtaking views across the Bay to Silverdale.

Being only 10 minutes from Lake Windermere, you have the best of all worlds:

Great accommodation without the usual hordes plus all the great activities and scenery the Lake District has to offer. Grange is the ideal destination if you really want to get away from it all and go home refreshed.

No wonder Bill Bryson described it as one of his top 6 favourite place to visit in England.
