The Costa Calida region
Casa Zen is a two bedroomed semi-detached villa located on Mazarron Country Club just outside of the town of Mazarron. The town is situated in the Costa Calida which is the name for the coastal area of the province of Murcia, all 250km of it!
Costa Calida directly translates as the warm coast and is so called because of the hot mean annual temperatures and the limited rainfall of only 34cm per year! The area boasts a wide range of towns, ports, coastline and mountains along with markets both traditional markets and modern shopping complexes which are perfect for families and tourists to enjoy and explore.
The property is ideally located for the pretty market town of Mazarron. There you will find a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. Mazarron Port is only a 10 minute drive from the villa and has a lovely palm lined promenade (paseo) with bars along the sea front and a large multi million Euro Marina with spectacular boats and yachts to see.
The Country Club is situated close to the Sierra Espuna that offers activities such as quad biking, hiking , kayaking and parascending. Nearby Cartagena is a historic city, with Roman ruins like the theatre of Cathargo Nova, that also has picturesque architecture and excellent shopping facilities.
Lying between Mazarron Country Club and the sea is the typical Spanish town of Mazarron; on the coast is Puerto de Mazarron with its harbour and new marina with diving school, a palm-lined promenade with lots of bars and restaurants, secluded coves and superb Blue Flag beaches, as well as plenty of shops, tapas bars and Spanish restaurants in the Puerto itself. Here you can swim, sail and windsurf - or just sunbathe on the uncrowded beaches - and divers can search out the variety of fauna in the clear calm waters. Puerto de Mazarron also boasts the largest Sunday market in the region. You certainly won't be lost for things to do here. In the summer, Mazarron Council even arranges free concerts on the beach.
Nearby is Bolneuvo with its large sandy beach and strange mushroom-shaped monoliths carved out of sandstone. Around half an hour from Mazarron Country Club lies the Parque Natural de Sierra Espuna, a paradise for walkers and climbers with 250 sq km of unspoilt highlands and trails and habitat to wild goats and lynxes, whilst the coast between Mazarron and Aguilas is a breeding ground for tortoises and eagles.
If you like shopping and sightseeing, then the cities of Murcia and Cartagena with their upmarket department stores and historical sights can be reached in about half an hour.
The nearest golf course is at Camposol, a 5-minute drive away. There are many other golf courses within easy driving distance (in a car, not with a club!) including Desert Springs, La Serena, Hacienda Del Alamo, Rhoda Golf, Mosa Trajectum, Lo Romero, La Torre, Villamartin, Las Ramblas, Campoamor, La Finca, Quesada, Alta Real, Torre Parache and of course the famous courses at La Manga.
Mazarrón town is 3 km from the Country Club and offers a choice of good restaurants, bars and a few shops plus the open market in the plaza every Saturday morning. A few kilometres further brings you to Puerto de Mazarrón which boasts three marinas, one of which has recently been updated, and the area now incorporates an underground car park. This is beside the paseo with its long stretch of beach and numerous café bars and souvenir shops. The area comes alive during the holiday period of July and August with live music and entertainment until late. Sunday mornings sees the large open market which attracts hundreds of visitors and is ideal for stocking up on local fresh fruit and vegetables. Amongst a myriad of stalls there is a wonderful selection of textiles, footwear, kitchenware and even freshly cooked chickens.
The town and port of Mazarrón boast a rich artistic heritage and a wide variety of leisure possibilities on the shores of the Mediterranean. The bay of Mazarron is enclosed by the mountain ranges of Sierras Moreras, Almenara, Algorobo, Lo Alto, Muela and slightly further to the North, Sierra Espuña. The town has been a mining area since Carthaginian times, and Mazarrón's bay benefits from being in the shelter of the uplands.
More than 35 kilometres of unspoilt beaches, coves and rocky sea beds make it an ideal place to soak up the sun, enjoy water sports, go scuba diving and try the local cuisine, including of course, excellent fish restaurants.
MAZARRON COUNTRY CLUB:
Mazarron Country Club is surrounded by scenic hills and open countryside, making it an ideal location for walkers and nature lovers. The Country Club is a new urbanisation, set in a peaceful location, a short drive inland from the ´blue flag' beaches of Mazarron bay, about 5km inland from Mazarron town and a further 7 km from Puerto de Mazarron. Facilities include a restaurant serving meals, drinks and tapas, a large free form pay-to-use open air summertime pool, tennis courts and petanque pitches.
Golf courses are abound in the area, the nearest being Camposol and many others within a radius of 30 – 50 minutes including Hacienda del Álamo, La Manga and the 3 Jack Nicklaus designed Polaris World courses which will be only 10 minutes away.
The Sierra Espuña national park is an area of cool freshness, whether walking or cycling or horse riding you will discover splendid scenes of forest and mountains up to 1583 m altitude. Some of the rock formations are ideal walls for rock climbers. If you don't want so much action: Order a Paella in one of the mountain restaurants and enjoy the views.
