The Costa Calida/Murcia region
Costa Calida (Hot Coast) is rich in history with 250 kms of beautiful sandy and rugged coastline, there is a lot to offer those who want to get away from the package deal holidays and find the real Spain. Murcia has a very healthy climate with lots of sun shine. There are many fiestas in the local towns throughout the summer. Murcia is known for olives groves, almonds, lemons, lettuces and is famous for tomatoes found in the English supermarkets. Murcia´s capital city Murcia is 35 miles away with its Moorish heritage, beautiful catherdral, up-market shops and boutiques. Cartagena is 22 miles away with its naval port, historic old buildings and city shopping. The very busy harbour caters for cruise ships, which can be viewed from the palm lined paseo with its bars and restaurants. The town of Totana, 12 miles away is known for its ceramics and a train from here will get you into the city of Murcia in about 40 minutes. Through Totana is the Sierra Espuña mountain National Park with its sign posted walks, wild boars, red squirrels and rustic bars serving hot food. A fort with its battery of guns made by Vickers was built to protect Cartagenas naval base, lays abandoned at Cabo Tiñoso near Mazarron. This makes an interesting outing. The Mar Menor (little Sea) is a lagoon, warmer than the Med sea and is cut off from the Mediterranean by a strip of land known as La Manga, with its famous golf course. Staying at Camposol gives you plenty of choice for playing golf on the many Murcian courses. Lorca and Caravaca de la Cruz are two of many towns in the area with lots of history and weekly market. In the villa you will find a folder with places of interest to help you discover our area.
Mazarron / Camposol Golf area
Camposol is surrounded with countryside, almond groves and views of the mountains. It has its own 18 hole golf course (handicap card needed to play), driving range and club house with weekend entertainment. The luxuary spa hotel is near completion. There are two commercial centres where you will find supermarkets, daily English newspapers, internet cafe, shops, estate agents, bodega (where you can buy local wine from the barrel), bars, Chinese, Indian, Italian and Spanish restaurants, ten pin bowling and pool tables. If you have bought off plan at Polais World´s Condado de Alhama, Camposol is the place to rent when returning to inspect your porperty´s progress. The typical Spanish town of Mazarron is ten minutes drive away and has all the usual facilities, daily indoor market and a street market on Saturdays. The Old mines stand disused on the hill side along with other historical sites. Ten minutes further and you are in Puerto de Mazarron. The palm lined paseo has shops, bars and restaurants overlooking the new marina. Market day is Sunday. The beaches are sandy with gently shelving waters making it safe for children. Nearby at La Azohia the rocks and clear water makes this area popular for diving and snorkelling. At Bolnuevo the sea and wind has made sand sculptures in the cliffs. Further along here where the Las Moreras mountains meet the sea there are little coves enjoyed by naturists. Fishing is also popular.(licence required)
