The Costa Calida region

The Costa Calida is situated in the south east corner of the Iberian Peninsula. To the north lies the Costa Blanca and to the south lies Almeria. It has a total of 250km of coastline and 'Costa Calida' translated means 'Hot Coast'. it has at least 315 days of sunshine per year and temperatures range from 18-38C in the summer season to 12-22C in the winter season.

Mazarrron - Where the mountains meet the sea.

Bathed in history and with numerous beautiful beaches, hidden coves, mountains and varied countryside, the friendly people and environment make Mazarron and the Costa Calida region a wonderful place to visit for a carefree and relaxing holiday. This area is mainly agricultural and produces olives, almonds, lettuce and more tomatoes than anywhere else in Spain. Most of the tomatoes supplied to Uk supermarkets are grown in this locality.

Mazarron is a small Spanish town situated 25 miles from Murcia. The main town has banks, medical centre, dentists, indoor produce market, many shops and restaurants. Five minutes drive away is it's sister town - Puerto Mazarron.

Puerto Mazarron has superb sandy beaches, secluded coves and a marina. There are many excellent restaurants and bars, but no chip shops or fast food take-aways. This is your traditional Spain! The paseo which goes as far as El Alamillo is a lovely way to stroll and pass away a warm balmy evening and burn off a few calories.

Sports - Puerto Mazarron is one of the most important tourist centres for marine and sub-aquatic activities in Spain. Sailing and diving can be undertaken at any time of the year and the clear waters and rich flora and fauna offer the diving enthusiast some highly interesting underwater depths.

Mazarron is not only sea, but also air - you can go hang-gliding and enjoy some unique views or climb the jagged mountain peaks, where you can see the beautiful 'Blue Flag' beaches. Follow paths on foot, bicycle or on horseback through ever changing scenery. If you like adventure sports and being close to nature, you are at the right place.

Sierra Espuna - To the north of Mazarron through Totana or Alhama, you will find this beautiful national park. The views are spectacular and along the journey you will find a few small bars and restaurants serving good quality priced food. There are a number of walks signposted and if you are lucky, you will see some wild boar and red squirrels.

Camposol - Situated 12km from the lovely beaches of Puerto Mazarron. A superb inland village, Camposol literally translated means 'Countryside in the Sun' This urbanization has excellent facilities which include a hyper-market, two smaller supermarket,s shops, several bars, restaurants, with a choice of Chinese, Indian, Italian, Spanish and English dining. Camposol now boasts a full 18 hole golf course (please bring your handicap card if you want to play), a clubhouse which has entertainment and a driving range where you can purchase a bucket of balls for a modest fee of 1 euro. The grand opening of a 4* Hotel and Luxury Spa Resort complex, situated overlooking the golf course is expected early spring 2008, bringing even more facilities and amenities to make your holiday that much more memorable and enjoyable in Camposol.

There is also a large swimming pool with a bar situated at Marianos Restaurant with a cafe, sunbeds, parasols and tennis courts, however there is a small payment required for their use. Camposol also has it's own riding school.

A regular bus service serves the town and port.

Four lovely beaches are within 15km drive, all these beaches are European 'Blue Flag' and have lovely walks. For the more adventurous of you there is a 'Naturist' beach at Bolnuevo.

Lorca is a nearby beautiful town with a castle on the hill which has narrated tours in English. It also has a fantastic fiesta every year at Easter time with marvellous costumes and floats. People travel from all over Spain for this fantastic parade. You can wander round the many little cobbled streets and admire the historic old buildings and architecture or just sit outside one of the many cafes and restaurants, enjoying tapas, a cold beer, or cafe con leche and just people watch.

Murcia - the provincial capital of the region is described as one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the country. It has retained it's Moorish heritage, yet has fashionable boutiques, upmarket department stores and fine local cuisine. there are impressive churches in the city including the baroque Cathedral which is definitely worth visiting along with the Casino built in the 19th century, which has an amazing palatial interior.

Cartagena - is an ancient Roman coastal city, the old part of the city is quite spectacular. It has a beautiful, lively port with lots of restaurants from where you can go on one of the many boat trips conducted regularly from here. There is a naval and archaeological museum showcasing the rich history of the area. Narrated bus tours offer an insight into the city's fascinating past.

Aguilas - A modern , well planned town, located on a site whose history dates back thousands of years to the Greek, Roman and Moors occupation. It has a a beautiful harbour where the views from the castle of San Juan are truly impressive. It's walkways along the sea and the serenity of its bays of Levante and Poniente, truly foot the bill. Aguilas also boasts one of the the most beautiful 'plaza's' in southern Spain called 'Glorieta de la Plaza de Espana. It boasts a wonderful collection or rare plants and shrubs all growing in the shade of tall palms and other trees. In the centre is the fountain know locally as 'Pava de la Balsa' (Turkey in the Pool!) the Plaza is surrounded by a variety of buildings, most of which have beautiful early 19th century facades, perhaps the most notable being the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) which is Neomudejar style. This is the perfect setting to sit at one of the cafe's or restaurants and spend many a pleasurable hour people watching.

Distance from Camposol to Cartagena is approx 40kms

Distance from Camposol to Murcia city is approx 70kms

Distance from Camposol to San Javier airport is approx 75kms

Distance from Camposol to Alicante airport is approx 120kms

"Fantastic Villa with brilliant views of the Almond orchards"

This was the first time we had stayed in Camposol and wont be our last. From the start Sue and Colin made it an absolute joy to stay in their beautiful Villa starting with Sue meeting us and showing us around her property, to giving us tips and advise around the area.

There is everything you could think of needing already in this property, from the sunvisor for the hirecar and down to the airbeds for the swimming pool. The villa is located in an excellent position to gain the sun all day in the garden and pool area and the views from the living room and from the terrace afford amazing vistas of the mountains and almond orchards, making for beautiful sunrises.

As mentioned in the previous reviews everything is local with shops and bars on sector A within less than 10 minutes walk and a short drive to extra shops/supermarket and restaurants on commercial centre B. There is also the petrol station here.

Mazzarron is about 15 minutes drive to a host of beaches and the Port of Mazzaron is definitely worth a trip.

If you are thinking of booking a villa in Camposol and have not yet done so before, I can thoroughly recommend this one and would not hesitate to book here again as hopefully we will be doing shortly.

I would like to thank Sue and Colin for their hospitality and their help and advice during our stay and hope to see you both again soon.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback about our villa. We are really looking forward to seeing you both again and wish you much luck in finding your very own 'holiday home in the sun'

"Great Villa with excellent facilities, Stunning views, Fabulous walks."

We stayed for the winter from early January 2012 to the end of March and had a lovely long vacation. The facilities at the Villa are first class and the owners are friendly and available for any information or help you need.
The location of the villa is superb, with stunning views from the property, great walks but with shops and restaurants just a few minutes walk.
We would certainly recommend this villa for a long or short let.

Thank you very much for you positive feedback, we really appreciate your kind remarks and look forward to seeing you all again!

"Very Well Equipped Villa In Convenient Location"

Met on arrival by owners Colin & Sue. Excellent accomodation, well fitted kitchen, & all standard UK TV channels + many more. Plenty of outdoor seating areas in & out of the sun. Colin arranged golf at the course nearby (5 mins drive) at discounted green fees.
Good supermarket about 3 mins drive away on commercial area which has several bars & places to eat. Although a mainly British development it is within easy reach of Mazzaron Port & Cartegena which are both well worth a visit.

Thank you for your kind comments. Glad we could help regarding reduced golf fees and I agree that Camposol has many british residents but once you drive off it, you are truly in the 'Real Spain!'

"Fantastic villa with everything provided for!"

This villa is perfect for a relaxing holiday for family and/or friends. We arrived late in the evening to a warm and friendly welcome from the owners Colin & Sue, check in was swift and easy. I found the villa really clean and spotless once we arrived.
The property has an even bigger "wow factor" when seen in real life.
Favouite bits are up and downstairs eating areas with an inviting pool to cool off in after some sunbathing! Wifi was also available which came in very handy.

Bars and restaurants are located within an easy 10-15 minute walk, although some people may not like this distance, I personally found it not a problem at all. Even more bars and restaurants are a further 10 minutes away to.

All in all, a wonderful holiday!
