The Costa Calida region

The Costa Calida is situated in the south east corner of the Iberian Peninsula. To the north lies the Costa Blanca and to the south lies Almeria. It has a total of 250km of coastline and 'Costa Calida' translated means 'Hot Coast'. it has at least 315 days of sunshine per year and temperatures range from 18-38C in the summer season to 12-22C in the winter season.
The Mazarron / Camposol area
Mazarrron - Where the mountains meet the sea.
Bathed in history and with numerous beautiful beaches, hidden coves, mountains and varied countryside, the friendly people and environment make Mazarron and the Costa Calida region a wonderful place to visit for a carefree and relaxing holiday. This area is mainly agricultural and produces olives, almonds, lettuce and more tomatoes than anywhere else in Spain. Most of the tomatoes supplied to Uk supermarkets are grown in this locality.
Mazarron is a small Spanish town situated 25 miles from Murcia. The main town has banks, medical centre, dentists, indoor produce market, many shops and restaurants. Five minutes drive away is it's sister town - Puerto Mazarron.
Puerto Mazarron has superb sandy beaches, secluded coves and a marina. There are many excellent restaurants and bars, but no chip shops or fast food take-aways. This is your traditional Spain! The paseo which goes as far as El Alamillo is a lovely way to stroll and pass away a warm balmy evening and burn off a few calories.
Sports - Puerto Mazarron is one of the most important tourist centres for marine and sub-aquatic activities in Spain. Sailing and diving can be undertaken at any time of the year and the clear waters and rich flora and fauna offer the diving enthusiast some highly interesting underwater depths.
Mazarron is not only sea, but also air - you can go hang-gliding and enjoy some unique views or climb the jagged mountain peaks, where you can see the beautiful 'Blue Flag' beaches. Follow paths on foot, bicycle or on horseback through ever changing scenery. If you like adventure sports and being close to nature, you are at the right place.
Sierra Espuna - To the north of Mazarron through Totana or Alhama, you will find this beautiful national park. The views are spectacular and along the journey you will find a few small bars and restaurants serving good quality priced food. There are a number of walks signposted and if you are lucky, you will see some wild boar and red squirrels.
Camposol - Situated 12km from the lovely beaches of Puerto Mazarron. A superb inland village, Camposol literally translated means 'Countryside in the Sun' This urbanization has excellent facilities which include a hyper-market, two smaller supermarket,s shops, several bars, restaurants, with a choice of Chinese, Indian, Italian, Spanish and English dining. Camposol now boasts a full 18 hole golf course (please bring your handicap card if you want to play), a clubhouse which has entertainment and a driving range where you can purchase a bucket of balls for a modest fee of 1 euro. The grand opening of a 4* Hotel and Luxury Spa Resort complex, situated overlooking the golf course is expected early spring 2008, bringing even more facilities and amenities to make your holiday that much more memorable and enjoyable in Camposol.
There is also a large swimming pool with a bar situated at Marianos Restaurant with a cafe, sunbeds, parasols and tennis courts, however there is a small payment required for their use. Camposol also has it's own riding school.
A regular bus service serves the town and port.
Four lovely beaches are within 15km drive, all these beaches are European 'Blue Flag' and have lovely walks. For the more adventurous of you there is a 'Naturist' beach at Bolnuevo.
Lorca is a nearby beautiful town with a castle on the hill which has narrated tours in English. It also has a fantastic fiesta every year at Easter time with marvellous costumes and floats. People travel from all over Spain for this fantastic parade. You can wander round the many little cobbled streets and admire the historic old buildings and architecture or just sit outside one of the many cafes and restaurants, enjoying tapas, a cold beer, or cafe con leche and just people watch.
Murcia - the provincial capital of the region is described as one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the country. It has retained it's Moorish heritage, yet has fashionable boutiques, upmarket department stores and fine local cuisine. there are impressive churches in the city including the baroque Cathedral which is definitely worth visiting along with the Casino built in the 19th century, which has an amazing palatial interior.
Cartagena - is an ancient Roman coastal city, the old part of the city is quite spectacular. It has a beautiful, lively port with lots of restaurants from where you can go on one of the many boat trips conducted regularly from here. There is a naval and archaeological museum showcasing the rich history of the area. Narrated bus tours offer an insight into the city's fascinating past.
Aguilas - A modern , well planned town, located on a site whose history dates back thousands of years to the Greek, Roman and Moors occupation. It has a a beautiful harbour where the views from the castle of San Juan are truly impressive. It's walkways along the sea and the serenity of its bays of Levante and Poniente, truly foot the bill. Aguilas also boasts one of the the most beautiful 'plaza's' in southern Spain called 'Glorieta de la Plaza de Espana. It boasts a wonderful collection or rare plants and shrubs all growing in the shade of tall palms and other trees. In the centre is the fountain know locally as 'Pava de la Balsa' (Turkey in the Pool!) the Plaza is surrounded by a variety of buildings, most of which have beautiful early 19th century facades, perhaps the most notable being the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) which is Neomudejar style. This is the perfect setting to sit at one of the cafe's or restaurants and spend many a pleasurable hour people watching.

Met on arrival by owners Colin & Sue. Excellent accomodation, well fitted kitchen, & all standard UK TV channels + many more. Plenty of outdoor seating areas in & out of the sun. Colin arranged golf at the course nearby (5 mins drive) at discounted green fees. Good supermarket about 3 mins drive away on commercial area which has several bars & places to eat. Although a mainly British development it is within easy reach of Mazzaron Port & Cartegena which are both well worth a visit. Response: Thank you for your kind comments. Glad we could help regarding reduced golf fees and I agree that Camposol has many british residents but once you drive off it, you are truly in the 'Real Spain!' |

It was like living on the set of 'Footballers Wives' ...fantastic!!
DearColin & Sue,
I didn't want the summer to pass without saying a big thank you to you both for allowing us to have such a stress free and relaxing stay in your villa. It was beautifully equipped with everything from hairdryer and straightening irons to hot water bottles, games and pool toys. The expansive choice ot TV channels (with fantastic reception!) and ability to plug in Charlie's Playstaion really gave us a break and the boys some quiet time away from the sun and heat.
The villa on arrival was immaculately presented and indeed cleaned to the same standard mid way through our stay, which was well wort the additional cleaning fee. The wasp nest once reported and inspected was dealt with immediately for which we were extremely grateful and impressed.
I would not hesitate to recommend your villa to friends and am still trying to work out when we could fit in a further stay next year around our already confirmed holiday plans.
I would be more than happy for this testimonial to appear on your website or for it to be forwarded to prospective tenants.
Thanks once again, kind regards and best wishes.
