The Murcia region
Mazarron is a small Spanish town situated in the province of Murcia and is actually two towns in one.
There is the town of Mazarron itself, five kilometres from the sea with its town hall, indoor fresh produce market, shops, banks, medical facilities, cafes etc. Then less than 10 minutes drive away, there is its pretty seafront sister, Puerto de Mazarron, one of Spain's best kept secrets. Here you will find a harbour and marina, a sea front boulevard, numerous bars and restaurants. It's refreshingly far from the madding crowd of large tourist urbanisations and package holiday hotels and has no high rise developments.
The Mazarron area offers a healthy lifestyle with most beaches EEC Blue Flag certified, unpolluted sea, clean air and fresh food. Mazarron is acknowledged to be one of the healthiest places in Europe, due to its location and it favourable micro-climate.
The Costa Calida region
Mazarron and the Puerto de Mazarron offer a complete range of facilities, services, sports, tranquillity, nature and culture. You can enjoy golf, beaches, mountains, harbours and much more.
The area offers enough golf courses to suit every golfers taste and, combined with the excellent climate, makes this area a golfer's paradise! The two closest courses are less than 15 minutes drive away and there are many others within an hour's drive.
Puerto de Mazarron is situated in the centre of Mazarron Bay, which boasts over 35 Km of unspoilt coastline, made up of some big beaches and numerous small coves. The waters are wonderfully unpolluted and perfect for sub aqua activities, with clear views of Mediterranean flora and fauna such as sea bass, moray and moonfish.
Nature lovers will not be disappointed. The Sierra de Espuña is a mountainous, wooded area of natural scenic beauty with many walking routes winding through the whole area. If you are lucky you may see the wild boar and mountain goats. The small medieval village of Aledo and the nearby convent of Santa Eulalia, now a hotel, are well worth a visit. There are many other walking areas close by and the views are breathtaking.
For history buffs a visit to the nearby port of Cartagena (50 minutes or less drive) with its Roman ruins, including a magnificent restored amphitheatre, and naval and military past is a must. A trip to the 'Guns of Mazarron', one of the outer coastal defences of Cartagena completed in the 1930's, combines history with magnificent views over Cartagena bay.
