The 'Volets Verts' house is located in Labastide-Rouairoux in the Departement of Tarn in the Region of Midi-Pyrenees in the beautiful environs of the Montagnes Noires (Black Mountains) of the Haut Languedoc National Park. The surrounding area is ideal for outdoor pursuits for all generations, from simple walks or rambling to mountain biking and wind-surfing on the famous lake La Raviege. In an hours's drive you could be shopping in Carcassone or sun-bathing at the beautiful Mediterranean beach of Valras Plage by Beziers. The Montagnes Noires region is world renowned for its natural, rugged beauty and its particularly healthy climate combining Atlantic, mountain and Mediterranean influences. If you want peace and relaxation in stunning, unspoilt, French countryside, with the option of being active and adventurous, then come and stay at Volets Verts and enjoy a wonderful holiday. For your convenience, security and assistance at the property, there is a English-French spreaking representative in the village who will be available throughout.
The groundfloor accommodation is available for rent to families, individuals or couples as a fully self-contained holiday unit which sleeps six. It has been rerenovated to a high standard, retaining the original and traditional features ( tile and parquet floors, original woodwork). It comprises a light, spacious living room, fitted kitchen with cooker and fridge, microwave, roomy bathroom with modern bath and shower to today's high specifications. The accommodation offers a considerable amount of self-contained independence with plenty of room to really relax .
The appartment has large sliding doors opening to a side terrace suited for enjoying late breakfasts, eating with family and friends or simply relaxing on. Via the back you can access the large south-facing garden and pool area to enjoy sun shine all day long benefiting from the natural shade of the fig and sycamore trees next to the barbecue area. Here on the designated sand area in summer the large kit pool is set up and used by all ages to relax in. An adjoining area of some 800 m2 of open grassland lined by fruit trees (fig, apple, pear and plum) belongs to the house and is for the guests' use.

Besides access to the main large south-facing garden and pool plot, the apartment has a small private side terrace for guests use. There is also a large utility room with washing machine and ample storage space for equipment etc. It is a five minute walk into the village offering backeries, chemist, supermarket, village green and play area, shops, cafe; we recommend the excellent Boulevard Restaurant on the main highstreet serving a great selection of international food all day and late into the evening with English and French speaking hosts, the very good Dolmen restaurant offering a lunch menu and, near the Mayor's office, a pizza bar. There are regular markets in all the local villages.
There are various excellent lakes within 30 to 40 minutes drive set in forest and mountain terrain. The next village, St Pons, offers a modern outdoor swimming pool or, for sea-lovers, it is an hour 15 min drive to the mediterranean beaches of Valras, Vendres, near Beziers.

Sports enthusiasts will note that this is the French home of Rugby. For those prepared to travel further afield there is a one hour and 15 mins drive to the Mediterranean beaches of Bezier and Narbonne in the summer or alternatively shopping forays to the world renowned tax haven of Andorra (3 hours) or to the attractive local towns of Mazamet (20)mins), Castre (30 mins), Albi (75 mins) or of course the world famous Carcassone (1hr 10 mins).
The famous medieval castle of Carcassonne is one of the world's largest living fortified ramparts. It combines an awe-inspiring panorama of genuine historical interest in the day time followed by lazy, latin evenings wondering amongst the lively wonderful cafes, restaurants, shops and bars in its winding medieval streets. Alternatively, for the really intrepid, skiing in the Pyrenees is a 2 hour drive in the winter.
The village of Labastide-Rouairoux is a five minute saunter away. A former textile village typical for the region it now has a textile museum as testimony to its past. It has all typical amenities for a small French village to include cafe, pizza restaurant/take away, children's play area, supermarket and two excellent patiseries. The West side of the village, Code Bosc, holds its lively annual fete in early July with the main village fete du fil held around 15 August.
The local area is characterised by the beautiful green rolling foot-hills and mountains of the Montagnes Noires providing the ideal backdrop for wonderful walks right on your doorstep. It is a region perfect for those who love flora and fauna and the great outdoors . The choices range from canoeing, pot holing, walking, bird watching, horse riding, swimming in the famous lakes or local pools, camping, fishing, climbing and hiking.
By car you can discover the rolling hills, mountains and landscapes of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut Languedoc which the region is set in and which forms the southernmost extension of the Massif Central. The ride will take you up through the renowned scenic Route des Lacs to lakes at La Salvetat, Lacaune, Les Montanges to name but a few of the large natural lakes of the region. The tourist information service in Labastide-Rouairoux village, just a five minute walk away, can provide all necessary information.
