Chalet Vista is a stunning 300m2 eco-designed luxury ski chalet with heated indoor swimming pool, sauna and hamman/shower room. Newly built on a south-facing position, we enjoy fantastic uninterrupted views over the ski resort of Mayrhofen and the snow-capped mountains beyond. At Chalet Vista we get sunshine all day long, so guests can enjoy a warm lunch or lazy sunbathe on either of our two balconies. On the top balcony we offer a hot tub/Jacuzzi big enough for 8 people- bubble away with a glass of champagne while enjoying the spectacular vista, or relax with a book in our hammock. On the middle balcony is a trampoline for the kids. We are perfectly located in the centre of the Zillertal ski areas, click "gallery" page and scroll down to see our location on the piste maps. There's family skiing at Ramsberg (ski lift 1 km away), while advanced/expert skiers will find we're ideally placed for them to explore the many surrounding, challenging, ski areas. The area is HUGE- 671km of piste is bigger than France's 3 Valleys. The Tux glacier provides skiing even in summer and the surrounding mountains are high (67 peaks over 3000m)- so guests can be assured of quality snow for their holiday. Mayrhofen has a reputation for lively apres ski- Harakiri and Scotland Yard are our favourites but there's plenty of other bars, restaurants and clubs to keep guests entertained until the early hours. But you don't need to venture into town for some cool socialising; "Mountain and Soul" is five minutes walk down the road. Its owner has brought Ibiza to the snow, so expect diverse fusion menus and funky chilled tunes. It's where we go when we fancy a night out.

Most visitors come to Mayrhofen for snow sports, although there's also a wide range of exciting outdoor activities in the summer too. Lifts stay open year-round for trekking , mountain biking, paragliding, yodelling. Or save the cost of a lift ticket and try via ferrata, climbing, pony trekking, white water rafting ... Just 10 km away from us on the valley floor the professionally designed brand new 18 hole golf course at Uderns opened this summer, 2014. There are eight open air pools (all with water slides, whirlpools or other features) within 20km, . We also have toboggan runs locally. The Coaster is a wild rollercoaster mounted on the slopes located at the bottom of the Zillertal Arena ski area, it runs on rails and operates all year round. It has a café and a great kids playground at its base. Or, for a more traditional approach, on the hill directly above our property guests will find Zillertal's longest "rodlen" track. It's 7km long, floodlit at night, and a massive hit with the kids. Will you have the energy to keep up? We reckon Chalet Vista is ideally located for guest to enjoy pretty much every conceivable mountain sport or pastime.

Chalet Vista is conveniently located for the nearby airports of Innsbruck (45 min transfer) and Munich (2 hours). Transfers by public transport are possible from both- see "Map" page. Inside, the house is very spacious and has been stylishly finished with a contemporary luxury theme throughout. The open plan design and the large living areas make it an ideal place to relax and entertain. But tradition hasn't been completely forgotten- the big "kachelofen" (Austrian tiled fireplace) is perfect for warming oneself after a day in the snow. The well equipped kitchen is a hit with chefs, while the whole family will fit around the dining table just a couple of metres away. We have three double bedrooms, a dedicated kids room and further sleeping options in the lounge. The smallest of our bedrooms is over 10 m2; the master Black and Orange bedrooms are spacious at over 16 m2 each. We have a young family ourselves so know what makes life easy for families. We provide cots, high chairs, kids toys and other items that makes holidaying with the little ones that much easier, and fun! Chalet Vista is the ideal venue for a luxury family holiday in one of the most picturesque settings imaginable.

On the ground floor guests enjoy "wellness" facilities better than those found in most of the upmarket hotels locally; the indoor swimming pool is heated between 27 and 30C daily and incorporates an 'end-less' jet system for swim training. The infra red sauna will help ease any sore muscles following a full day in the mountains, or guests can enjoy a steam bath in the hamman/shower unit while simultaneously taking a foot massage! The pool/sauna combination is a fantastic way to stretch off and relax- your legs will thank you for it the next morning. The loungers in the pool area allow guests to kick back before dinner while listening to your fave mp3s- just connect you phone to our stereo via the provided jack plug and press "play"!

On the middle floor the lounge is massive and open plan- made with socialising very much in mind. At one end is the kitchen and dining area, at the other the movie theatre. In between is the large black "L" shape sofa - soft, inviting and the perfect place to enjoy a drink while unwinding and recapping the day's events. Next to this, through the contemporary dividing curtain, is the movie theatre. The sofa in the here is designed to turn into a full-size double bed (measuring 200x160 cm). Worried the sofa bed might be a hard compromise? Don't be; to ensure guests get a great night's sleep we provide memory foam mattress toppers too - so you'll be ready to play hard again the next day! Our audio-visual set-up was installed June 2013 using award winning components. Enjoy a movie night at home with your favourite Blueray disks or DVDs, or stream the latest movies in HD via Apple TV. Shoot your own ski or biking movies on your iPhone then watch them (via Airplay or USB) that evening with your whole family on our 50 inch plasma TV. We have optimised our live TV to show English language programs and have roughly 100 channels available, including Sky news and CNN. For bad weather days, or teenagers who have a "Call of Duty" score to settle, our X-Box is pre-loaded with 87 games. It's a "kinetic" one, so if you want to dance around the lounge casting spells in a Harry Potter adventure, you can do so at Chalet Vista. Expelliarmous!

Also on the middle floor the large family bathroom has a bath big enough for two; we think it's a great way to relax. Again with children in mind, we provide a baby bath and thoroughly sanitised potties on request! Last but not least on the middle floor is the "Den"; a kids playroom with bunk-beds for three. This gives the kids their own space, an area optimised as a place for the smaller guests to play and escape from the grown-ups. It has its own TV and Playstation/DVD player, beanbags and toys. Here the small ones can make as much noise as they want! The Den is down the corridor but on the same level as the lounge so parents are still within easy reach. The bunk-beds are full size, measuring 200x90cm, allowing adults to sleep here too if they like/need. Kids will want to know that outside, on the same level as the Den, is a trampoline. They can bounce as long as they wish!

On the top floor are the three main bedrooms. Two contain "Austrian Twin" beds. These are high specification doubles with separate mattresses (as is normal in Austria). The remaining bedroom on the top floor contains one UK queen size double bed. All adult bedrooms have mirrors and hair driers. At Chalet Vista we provide guests with the highest thread-count white cotton bedding and towels available, all new this season. Down duvets and large natural soft pillows ensure sweet dreams for the adults, meanwhile kids get quality hollow-fill bedding for practicality. Step out onto the huge balcony (or look through the windows of either the Black or the Orange bedroom) and the view will take your breath away.

In summary, Chalet Vista is probably the most luxurious of all the rental chalets in the Zillertal area. It is perfectly located in the centre of the surrounding ski areas and convenient for both Innsbruck and Munich airports. We bought the property 14 Dec 2012; everything inside is new and has been designed with luxury, relaxation and socialising very much in mind. Guests love the modern, clean, contemporary feel and the upmarket facilities. We hope to welcome you to our fabulous chalet soon.

Chalet Vista: luxury - relaxation - location

About the Chalet Vista team:

Chalet Vista is owned by Mike, a Cathay Pacific B777 pilot. He grew up in the UK but spent seasons in the Alps, ski and snowboard racing during his 20s and 30s. Austria is now his home, as he loves the mountains in both winter and summer. Expect to see him during your time in Chalet Vista; he likes to make sure guests are enjoying their stay. He no longer races (the knees don't allow it) but he's happy to ski guide and show guests the best secret spots around the Zillertal. In the summer Mike mountain bikes, paraglides, treks, climbs... the list is long and fun-packed. He's happy to introduce guests to these fantastic activities too.

Chalet Vista is run by Sally, Mike's partner. Sally is a TV producer/director who, having worked on well known programs at BBC for six years, now takes on independent projects. She's a demon skier and marathon runner. She too is happy to show guests the best our alpine playground has to offer. Sally lives with Mike, Lily and Cara in our apartment at Chalet Vista, separate from the main chalet.

Lily is our energetic trampoline tester and black run/ski cross expert. At 8 years old she's not yet ready for the British Ski Team but is working towards it. She has the world's largest My Little Pony and Barbie collections and can swim whole lengths of the pool underwater when the chalet isn't rented to guests.

Cara is the newest addition to our family. Her latest achievement is eating 8 whole very ripe strawberries in one sitting. She has two teeth and a wicked grin.

The Austrian Alps region

Mayrhofen and the Zillertal valley are best known for winter snow sports. There are six main ski areas: Ahorn, Arena, Kaltenbach (aka Hoch Zillertal), Penken/Horberg/Finkenberg/Eggalm (all interconnected), Gerlostein/Ramsberg and Glacier (open for skiing 365 days a year). Because the area is huge there is a wide choice of terrain for all skiers. Ahorn offers an excellent, wide, well groomed, safe area for beginners on the motorway blue run, serviced by the brand new 8 seater express lift with heated seats! At the top you can get a bit of Dutch courage at the igloo bar (White Lounge) while listening to cool Ibiza tunes from the resident DJ. Ramsberg is our local option, providing excellent queue-less family skiing during peak weeks (such as Feb half term). It's also got some secret spot steep north facing through-the-trees runs for those who fancy an off-piste challenge. Kaltenbach, Arena and Penken all have all invested heavily in the latest new lifts and snowmaking. They are truly top-drawer ski areas with some massive off piste bowls. Harakiri is the famed 78% black run above Mayrhofen but frankly it's kids' stuff compared to the couloirs under Tux 150. Glacier allows training of teams in the autumn (British Army and national/Olympic teams are regular visitors). It also allows summer guests to ski if they wish before sunbathing the afternoon away at the open air pools (something to brag on your postcards to home). Talking of which...

The list of summer activities is even more extensive than the winter one. There are eight open air pools (most with water slides) within 20km. The biggest is the Aquapark at Fugen; here you'll find a wave pool, a 10m whirlpool, and outdoor hot saltwater pool, other pools, saunas, steam rooms and two big spiral slides- the "Black Hole" will get both kids and adults' hearts pumping! Ski lifts stay open year-round for trekking , mountain biking, paragliding, zip-lining, picnicing, yodelling. Or save the cost of a lift ticket and try via ferrata, climbing, pony trekking, white water rafting ... (the list goes on.) Just 10 km away from us on the valley floor the professionally designed brand new 18 hole golf course at Uderns opened this summer, 2014. The driving range has been open for a year, the large entertainment centre will open there soon. Also great for a day off from the slopes are the two toboggan options: The Coaster is a wild rollercoaster mounted on the slopes located at the bottom of the Zillertal Arena ski area, it runs on rails and operates all year round. Or, for a more traditional approach, on the hill directly above our property you will find Zillertal's longest "rodlen" track. It's 7km long, floodlit at night, and a massive hit with the kids. Will you have the energy to keep up? We reckon Chalet Vista is ideally located for guest to enjoy pretty much every conceivable mountain sport or pastime. For more info on activities (with hyperlinks to the organisers/owners/providers), Google or chaletvista.

Mayrhofen has a reputation for lively nightlife. Various festivals run throughout the year. Al Murray, Ian Bishop and other well known acts played Altitude Comedy last year. We were there, giggling away. Without doubt the wildest of the festivals is the end-of-season Snowbombing. 7000 guests arrive for a week of music from 100 bands. It started with us and 2000 other revellers at the Racquet Club as Pete Tong spun the discs. A brilliant week drew to a close with 7000 people watching Prodigy rip up the forest stage. But don't worry if you can't make it for the festivals, Mayrhofen is a lively place to be any week in the ski season. There's at least 30 restaurants in town and probably 50 bars. Icebar at the base of Penken lift goes mental at 5pm with après ski antics that involve dancing polar bears and podium girls. Harakiri offers an impressive fire-breathing show at midnight which makes one wonder how the place doesn't burn down. From the blast of heat on the ceiling and the stench of kerosene we presume they have disabled their fire alarm! Want more? Either of the two nights clubs will take you through to the early hours if you really must exhaust yourself!

Ski in/out? Almost; a short walk of 150m along the small road in front of the house will take you to the nearest meadow (snow covered in winter of course), at the bottom of which is the Ramsberg chairlift. Or from roughly the same point one can take the free ski bus to Horberg cable-car (for Penken ski area/Mayrhofen). The owner, Mike, is an ex-racer and snowboard instructor, he offers ski/snowboard guiding on an ad-hoc basis.

An often asked question is how to get to us. We're only 45 minutes drive from Innsbruck airport or 2 hours from Munich; being located on the airport side of Mayrhofen has the advantage of not getting stuck in traffic on change-over day. "Amazing holiday base for everyone - from those out on the snow to the heavily pregnant!"

"Mein bestes Ski-Opening in Mayrhofen!"

Hi Lisa,

Good to read you enjoyed your stay. Your comment about my working on the chalet during the day is fair. You visited us just prior to the ski season and at that time there was much to do to prepare the chalet for the main winter rental period. Unfortunately your visit overlapped slightly with some essential tasks. This would not normally be the case and is the main reason for the discounted pre-season rate charged.

As regards the parking, the chalet architect was obliged by planning regulations to include four parking spaces. This is normally sufficient. Thanks for working with me to help reduce the damage to the wall. As you will have noticed, I have already returned your deposit in full.

Thanks for staying at Chalet Vista.

My husband and I had a lovely summer stay at Chalet Vista with our three teen kids. It was perfect for us as you could choose to lounge around in the hot tub or pool or read on the terrace with wonderful mountain views, basking in the warm sunshine. Or you could enjoy one of the many outdoor activities (hang gliding, white water rafting, walking, etc) nearby which Mike and Sally, the very hospitable owners, were happy to organise or advise on if needed.
We didn't hire a car and got around fine on foot (though it was a steep 20 minute walk back from the nearest supermarket) and loved going to Mountain and Soul Hotel for its fab food, location and ambience.
All in all, perfect for a family or group holiday with plenty of room to get peaceful moments.
