Our 18th Century terraced cottage with thick stone walls and a slate roof has been fully and lovingly renovated, bringing together traditional materials and techniques with good modern design. It sleeps 6 people very comfortably, or 8 if you wish to use the cot and the futon bed.

The ground floor is completely open plan - ideally suited for sociable evenings of cooking, eating, conversation and family fun. It comprises an open kitchen with solid oak worktops, living area with sofas, armchair and coffee table, and a large dining table and chairs. The kitchen is fully equipped including a washing machine, tumble dryer and dish washer.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a small double bed and a cot and the second with full size bunk-beds. The bathroom has a WC, wash basin, bath with shower above and shelving.

Up a further flight of stairs is a gorgeously spacious loft bedroom with a large double bed and room for the single futon-bed (which is normally downstairs) if needed.

Visitors can play and picnic in the garden, which is across the single track road which runs in front of the house. There is a large stone barbecue, ideal for cooking some of the wonderful treats to be found at the local market.

The cottage is in Montreuil Poulay - a quiet village with a bar, a shop and a church, about 80 miles from the ferry ports of Caen and St. Malo, and not much further from Cherbourg. If you are travelling by air there are currently lo-cost flights to Dinard and Tours - each about 80 miles from the house. Half way between the historic towns of Mayenne and Lassay les Chateaux, in the region of the Pays de la Loire, Montreuil Poulay is an ideal base from which to explore the neighbouring regions of Brittany and Normandy as well as the local Mayenne department. This lovely part of France is renowned for its cheeses and fruit - apples for cider and calvados, and pears for perry.

"A superb escape!"

The cottage is laid out well with almost all the creature comforts you'd need. It is worth mentioning that there is no tv, dvd or wifi. As we travelled with our 5 year old son it was a minor cult… More

"Lovely peaceful setting in a little French village"

The cottage is great for a couple or larger groups. It is cosy and homely with a well equipped kitchen and comfy beds. Small bar/shop selling bread and other essentials a few minutes walk away. Many great walks possible straight from the door. Close to lots of pretty, traditional towns accessible by car or bike and beautiful French countryside to be explored in the surrounding area.
