The Pays de la Loire region

Tucked quietly away between southern Normandy and the Loire valley, the department of Mayenne falls within the jurisdiction of the Pays-de-la-Loire region, to produce a department with an identity all of its own.

Zig-zagging your way top to bottom will take you seamlessly from Breton crêpes and Norman cider to Loire valley châteaux and wine country. The one constant is the rolling green countryside, which is waiting to be explored in peace and tranquillity away from hordes of holidaymakers.

Mayenne

The nearby medieval towns of Mayenne and Domfront are both within 20kms. The 'prefecture' town of the Mayenne (LAVAL) is a 30minute drive away. The town of Lassay les Chateaux (12kms) has one of the best preserved medieval châteaux in France, complete with a working drawbridge and barbican.

The nearby village of St Frambault has an annual flower festival & fete. There are numerous farms producing cider & calvados, and the 'cider museum' is just outside of Ambriere les Vallees.

The Normandy beaches can all be reached within 90minutes, and the Mont St Michel is an hour away, and well worth a visit.

"Lovely week"

What a great property, huge garden fully kitted out for kids, even our 6 month old enjoyed the swings, trampoline and watching the chickens and rabbits. Melanie was very helpful with suggestions for days out, and welcomed us with a great hamper and made us feel very relaxed and at home. Remote enough that it's incredibly tranquil but close enough to everything you need. Lovely stay, thank you.

Thanks for taking time to write a review. We're so pleased you enjoyed your time here with us at Le Hameau. (I expect Samson is keeping you busy now!)

"An exceptional Gite with such welcoming hosts"

We have just returned from a 12 day stay at Le Hameau with our two Labrador dogs. To say we were made very welcome is an understatement. Nothing was too much trouble, the Gite is exceptional and everything has been thought of by the owners and was of a very high standard. The surrounding areas are beautiful to visit and the Gite is suitable for families, couples and is set in some very peaceful surroundings but accessible to so many places. You get the best of both worlds here. In fact, we didn't want to return home and could just have stayed there long term. The pool is a lovely size, as are the gardens and our two labradors could wander around in safety and enjoy themselves too. The warm welcome on our arrival was really nice and little touches the owners had got in for our arrival on a Sunday were so thoughtful. We wouldn't hesitate to return to Le Hameau and recommend it to everyone. We have a wonderful and enjoyable stay and came back feeling very refreshed. You should pay this Gite and the area a visit you will not be disappointed.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, and glad you liked the gite.

"A beautiful gite, pool and gardens in a relaxed rural setting - very family friendly"

Had a wonderful week in Le Hameau Gite, Souce. There were four of us (including two children aged 6 and 2) and the gite was stunning, with everything we needed for our stay. It is set beautiful location with a large private garden and an outdoor swimming pool...we had a fantastic week. The children loved the open space and wanted to be in the pool all the time. We enjoyed feeding the rabbit and the chickens with Melanie, and loved the fresh eggs we got in return! There was nothing too much trouble for Melanie, Jamie or Luke, and they made us feel very welcome. A truly relaxing holiday which we would certainly recommend.

Thanks for your kind comments, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. This makes it all worthwhile

"Brilliant and relaxing"

Melanie, Jamie and Luke were very nice. They made us feel very welcome. They even went out their way to get another high chair for our twins, a second cot and a stair gate. Nothing was too much for these wonderful hosts. We felt very welcome and we were really relaxed with them. We really did not have to ask for anything as everything was set up ready to use. They were very informative and helpful. We would love to return. Highly recommend. More Info: We went with three children and were later joined by the in-laws. We all had a wonderful time. The children loved walking around the grounds and garden. Our son aged 3 and a half loved collecting eggs every morning with Melanie. Fresh eggs really do taste nicer than supermarket eggs. The pool was very nice; it’s not heated but is warmed by taking hot air into the pool. If the weather is nice the pool can be nice and warm. There were a number of swimming aids, rings, float jacket, float etc. They have a number of loungers around the pool to relax on. Bathroom is nice with a powerful shower that has constant hot water and plenty of room. Kitchen is a good size and has enough pots, pans, plates containers etc BBQ was a good size with a lid Children: There are a number of swings, climbing frame, small bike for young children and a scooter. Darts, and other games. Great Value and for the price you really can't ask for a better place to stay!

Thanks for your kind comments, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. This makes it all worthwhile
