The Cottage at La Boissotière
About the home
"Peaceful", "relaxing", "comfortable". These are just some of the comments our guests have used to describe their stay at the cottage. We invite you to come and see for yourself.
Our spacious cottage looks out onto an attractive courtyard and has its own private garden with access to a further six acres to explore. Ideal for couples, families or groups of friends, the cottage is a countryside haven and yet we are an easy drive away from châteaux and numerous attractions in both the beautiful Loire Valley and Deux Sèvres regions
It is our aim that you will be as comfortable as possible and thoroughly enjoy your holiday. We are very happy to help with information on local attractions, booking restaurants etc. However if you prefer to be totally independent, that is absolutely fine too!
The village of Cersay is only one kilometre away with a general store, bakers, bar and chemist. Just a two minute drive or a ten minute walk and you can enjoy freshly baked croissants for breakfast.
We are only 15 minutes drive from the larger towns of Thouars or Doué La Fontaine.
There are excellent local markets in the surrounding area. Local vignerons sell wine directly and tastings can be arranged. Quiet country roads and lanes make this location a perfect base for a cycling or walking holiday; it is also a bird-watcher's paradise.

From its dominant position on a hill, Thouars is a thriving town with a substantial 17th century chateau that overlooks the river below. In addition Thouars has markets on Tuesdays and Fridays and all main amenities.
Nestled in a woodland setting there is an open air swimming pool with slides at Argenton le Vallées, only 10 minutes drive away. After a swim, why not relax with a drink/ice-cream at the lakeside bar/restaurant, or have a go on a pedalo on the lake just below the pool.
There is also a brand new indoor swimming pool at Doué la Fontaine with a slide, children's pool, sauna and hammam.
The bioparc zoo at Doué La Fontaine with very natural and spacious enclosures – if you don’t normally like zoos, this one will definitely change your mind. There is a wide range of animals here and the zoo has a breeding programme designed to help endangered species.

Why not have a go at canoeing or kayaking? Only 15 minutes away at Massais or 30 minutes at Gennes, you are able to hire a canoe or kayak for an hour or more at extremely reasonable rates.
There are plenty of relaxing walks straight from the cottage - we can supply you with details. A short drive can lead you to a variety of longer and more varied hikes. There are also routes of varying length starting from a picturesque fishing lake at the nearby market town of Vihiers.

We had an amazing time at La Boissotiere...we were made so welcome by owners Paul and Amanda, and the gite was spotless, well-equipped, spacious and comfortable - but best of all was the fabulous garden - perfect for our many relaxing lunches, games of boules, sleeping on comfortable loungers, and having barbecues of delicious meat from the local market. Such peace and quiet in the evenings sitting outside was lovely. Not to mention the additional 6 acres the children had to explore in the garden of the main house, with a maze of exciting paths Paul had carved out in the long grasses! Great cycle rides and walks from the door, and the village nearby was great for a morning cycle or walk for fresh bread. This holiday was the perfect mix of total peace and tranquility at the gite, but with plenty to do - we would recommend Puy du Fou (an outstanding theme park), the market at Thours, the excellent local zoo working with endangered species, wine tasting at the local vineyard, the trogladyte village in Rochmenier and the beautiful town of Le Puy de Notre-Dame with its wonderful traditional restaurant. With children of 10, 7 and 1, and parents in need of a rest, this holiday suited everyone, but this accommodation would suit all ages, as there is as much or as little to do as you please. Highly recommended. |

Thank you SO much. We've had a FABULOUS honeymoon here! You've been amazing hosts. We really appreciate all the treats, help and information you've given us. Good luck with your amazing home. Hope to see you again! Teresa, Al and Sam - Brighton
Lovely welcome, fabulous gite, wonderfully quiet. Thanks for the help with the motorbike Paul. Lovely scenery, quiet roads, motorcycling every day, in September - can't be bad. Cheers. Tracey and Martin - Bristol.
We have had an amazing two weeks; they have been very enjoyable. Most memorable moments were the BBQs, games nights and wine. Had some amazing days out as well. Also going home with a nice tan! Katie, Beth, Karen and Ian - Chorleywood
What a wonderful welcome plus so many thoughtful little extras. We have all thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks in this lovely comfortable cottage-embraced by the “sound of silence” we feel as if we have been among old friends. Thank you, Amanda and Paul.

We have really enjoyed our most peaceful stay at “The Cottage”. The weather has been lovely and there are so many interesting things to see! Saumur, some of the Chateaux, local vineyards to name just a few! However, the best part of our holiday must surely be the excellent hospitality bestowed upon us by Paul and Amanda. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We felt at home in this lovely cottage.
Thank you – we would love to come back.
Gill & Mark – Staffordshire
We struck gold! – The cottage has been the perfect “home from home” and Paul & Amanda have been warm in their welcome. Can’t wait to come back again!
The Shaw family – Ireland
Thank you so much Paul & Amanda for your wonderful hospitality. We really have had the most fantastic week in the cottage. Having arrived on the bike with the bare minimum we were delighted with how well equipped the cottage is. The roads, the chateaux, the food, wine and people have all made this the perfect week for us and we hope to return very soon. Thank you both again.
Paul & Jennie – West Midlands
