The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

The Dordogne region of south-west France is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations in the country. Visit this beautiful region of France and discover the chateaux, beautiful medieval towns and villages, unspoiled countryside and prehistoric caves - just some of the many reasons why the region attracts visitors.

There are many 'famous sights' in the Dordogne, including: Lascaux caves; Marqueyssac gardens; medieval Sarlat; Chateau Castelnaud; prehistoric caves in the Vezere Valley, etc. Yet it is the places that you visit outside these 'hot-spots' that will stay longest in your memory - the scenery, the peace, the coffee in a small cafe, the picnic next to a stream. The Dordogne is beautiful in the same way as the Cotswolds or Tuscany are beautiful - the way it simply makes you want to stay forever enjoying the quiet, the countryside, the scenery...

Some of the best known highlights include Lascaux caves, the gouffre de Padirac caves and Marqueyssac gardens and canoeing the Dordogne, with the most popular towns and villages including Bergerac / Brantome / Excideuil / La Roque-Gageac / Le Bugue / Riberac / Rocamadour / Sarlat

The Dordogne Valley usually refers to the path followed by the river, and is towards the south of the department - it passes more or less east to west, passing through Bergerac. The more northerly half of the department is really quite a way from the river! Tourism in the Dordogne doesn't start and end with the river - be sure to venture north and south a little to discover the quiet but equally beautiful regions a little more hidden from the public gaze...

"Delightful location in Dordogne"

We had a wonderful week in this delightful accommodation looking out onto a particularly scenic part of the Dordogne. I would agree that the lack of a washing machine and wifi are a bit inconvenient… More

"Well located, clean & tranquil."

We had a great holiday here and we were able to travel around the Dordogne valley easily. The property is not ideal for non European travellers who are away for more than a week as there is no washing… More

Many thanks for your Review.

I apologise about the Casserole Dish - I thought that there was a pyrex dish in the cupboard - will check that one out and replace it if its not there!

Pillows - sorry about that - the UK pillows were at the laundry being dry cleaned, and the only other set I have are the French ones.

Im glad you enjoyed your stay.

Many thanks for your review. Im so glad that you had a great time.

We decided to take the WiFi out last year as it caused more problems than it was worth. The apartment is going to be refurbished over the winter, so will look into reinstating the WiFi next year.

"Peace & tranquility"

The apartment was adequate but it's position overlooking the Dordogne river was beautiful. Mauzac is a wonderfully, peaceful place and ideal for a 'get away from it all' holiday. The apartment remained pleasantly cool even on the hottest days. There are metal chairs and a table in the tiny outside area but it would have been nice to have a comfortable chair to sit in and enjoy the weather. A microwave oven would be a useful addition in the kitchen.

Many thanks for the review, a microwave oven is on our list of things to buy!

Glad you enjoyed the apartment.

"Great place to discover the Dordogne"

We had a great time staying here, the cottage is ideal, a great location, close to everything but tucked away in a quiet spot by the river. Perfect for a couple, loads to see and do within an hours drive and great walks right from the cottage. The restaurant next door does great food and there is a small shop in the village that has everything you need.

"Beautiful position"

What a beautiful position with lovely views across the river. The property has been thoughtfully refurbished and is comfortable and convenient to live in. It is within a delightful short stroll by the river to restaurants, bar and shop. Lovely!

"Quaint riverside getaway!"

The apartment is an ideal getaway in a small town in the Dordogne. It was beautifully remodeled, and much more spacious than expected! A nice size kitchen and bathroom in addition to a living room and bedroom. The setting is peaceful, and the views from this first floor rental are great. Despite the size of the town, grocery stores and other amenities were only a short drive away. I would implore all couples who are looking into a Dordogne road trip to look into this great deal. What a beautiful region!
