The Heart of England / Peak District / Peak District/Derbyshire region

The Peak District is Britain's oldest National Park and the second most visited National Park in the world; it has something for everyone from vast expanses of wild and remote landscapes to some of the prettiest and friendliest villages in the country. The Peak District is uniquely accessible making it ideal for short breaks whilst it has facilities and attractions which would easily fill a longer break all year round - such as walking, cycling trails, caving, climbing and canoeing. For those preferring a more leisurely break, the Peak District has more than its fair share of stately homes, village tea shops and craft centres.
The Matlock / Winster area
Winster is a friendly and historic village, it has good walking with the Limestone Way going through the village. and its own village website at www.winster.org giving details of the village and village events. The High Peak trail and Tissington trail are great family friendly cycling trails which are a stone's throw from Winster; bike hire is widely available.
Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are on the doorstep and are not to be missed; Bakewell, is home to the Original Bakewell Pudding Shop which claims the recipe for the authentic Bakewell Pudding, the spa town of Matlock Bath has spectacular vertical crags rising from the River Derwent and is home to an aquarium, the Heights of Abraham with its caves, playground and cable cars and Gullivers Kingdom, an amusement park aimed specifically at children.

This tastefully furnished and very well eqiupped cottage had everything we needed for a great stay. The living/dining room is larger and more comfortable than the photos convey. There are plenty of walks on the doorstep or a short drive away, and the village is adequately equipped for groceries and a choice of two pubs. The visitor information was valuable, particularly the ordnance survey. We couldn't have wanted for more. |

This was a wonderful quiet spot and an ideal location for sightseeing. The Barn was well equipped, spotless and comfortable. When we arrived Sharon the owner had kindly left a tray with homemade lemon cake, bottle of wine, crisps and tea and coffee making facilities and milk in the fridge. What a lovely touch. All in all a super holiday let and would recommend to all. |
