The Peak District is uniquely accessible making it ideal for short breaks whilst it has facilities and attractions which would easily fill a longer break all year round - such as walking, cycling trails, caving, climbing and canoeing. For those preferring a more leisurely break, the Peak District has more than its fair share of stately homes, village tea shops and craft centres.
Winster is a friendly and historic village, it has good walking with the Limestone Way going through the village. and its own village website at www.winster.org giving details of the village and village events. The High Peak trail and Tissington trail are great family friendly cycling trails which are a stone's throw from Winster; bike hire is widely available.
Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are on the doorstep and are not to be missed; Bakewell, is home to the Original Bakewell Pudding Shop which claims the recipe for the authentic Bakewell Pudding, the spa town of Matlock Bath has spectacular vertical crags rising from the River Derwent and is home to an aquarium, the Heights of Abraham with its caves, playground and cable cars and Gullivers Kingdom, an amusement park aimed specifically at children.

"Very comfortable, homely cottage"
The Old Barn was a lovely cottage and we had a very relaxing stay. The cottage is well equipped with everything we needed and the owner's were very friendly and accommodating. The bedrooms were a nice size and comfortable, it was nice having the master bedroom on its own upstairs with its own bathroom. The home-made cake was a nice touch and was delicious.

"Home from home"
Booked a Sunday to Sunday stay, arrived to find lights and fire on which made the cottage look cosy and welcoming. As well as this we walked into the lounge to find a welcome tray of coffee, tea, a bottle of wine, huge bag of Kettle chips and a lemon cake. What a great welcome.
The cottage benefits from Sky TV, all channels except films, and also has wifi, which works well in the lounge and upper bedroom.
All beds were extremely comfy, with luxury feel duvets and pillows. The rooms were warm, but had additional heating if needed. The kitchen is well equipped to enable cooking a full evening meal.
The cottage doesn't have a rural view, but looks out onto a very pretty courtyard, which is very well maintained.
Although Winster is busy in commuter hours, with traffic driving through the village, despite usually being a very light sleeper, I had some of the best sleeps I've ever had while away.
The owners are really accommodating, and the personal touches really make the holiday something special. We've already booked to come back next June and September!
