The Heart of England/Peak District

The Peak District is Britain's oldest National Park and the second most visited National Park in the world; it has something for everyone from vast expanses of wild and remote landscapes to some of the prettiest and friendliest villages in the country. The Peak District is uniquely accessible making it ideal for short breaks whilst it has facilities and attractions which would easily fill a longer break all year round - such as walking, cycling trails, caving, climbing and canoeing. For those preferring a more leisurely break, the Peak District has more than its fair share of stately homes, village tea shops and craft centres.

Winster is a friendly and historic village, it has good walking with the Limestone Way going through the village. and its own village website at giving details of the village and village events. The High Peak trail and Tissington trail are great family friendly cycling trails which are a stone's throw from Winster; bike hire is widely available.

Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are on the doorstep and are not to be missed; Bakewell, is home to the Original Bakewell Pudding Shop which claims the recipe for the authentic Bakewell Pudding, the spa town of Matlock Bath has spectacular vertical crags rising from the River Derwent and is home to an aquarium, the Heights of Abraham with its caves, playground and cable cars and Gullivers Kingdom, an amusement park aimed specifically at children.

"Looks great but not convenient for small children or dogs"

Property very unique and comfortable and if it was located as a detached property with secure private garden it would be ideal. Unfortunately the only access is through a courtyard used by the owners… More

I am very sorry that you did not find the Old Barn convenient; as nobody has ever mentioned these items as issues. I will make sure that I mention the lack of stair gates to people who book with small children in future; the upstairs bannister is unsuitable for attaching a stair gate to. From Autumn of this year we will no longer be accepting dogs but I will contact those who have currently booked and ask them to see your review in case they think that the need for access through the courtyard will spoil their stay. I thank you for taking the time to write the review.

We have visited winster on many occasions over the years. This was the first stay at the old barn, and how lovely it was.A very warm welcome by the owner Sharon.what I particularly liked was that everything you needed was provided The two pubs are very welcoming, both offering nice food and atmosphere.if you get the chance the walk to Elton is very pretty not too far and the pub(the duke of York )is a must. Its like going back in time! Just hope you don't need the loo!
