The Heart of England / Peak District / Peak District/Derbyshire region
The peak district is one of England’s most beautiful national parks, apart from the views and villages to visit it is a Mecca for walking, mountain biking, climbing, canoeing, caving etc.
Matlock area
The Peak District National Park is the England’s oldest national park and has plenty of things to do during your holidays. There are traditional Derbyshire stone villages to walk around with many cozy tea shops and the famous Bakewell Pudding shops, plus endless countryside walks, tough mountain biking and of course lots of traditional real Ale pubs! Matlock and Matlock Bath are well known tourist towns with lot’s to do and see. Apart from the shopping there is The heights of Abraham, Gulliver’s Kingdom, Matlock illuminations. Also Alton Towers theme park is no so far.
Chatsworth is one of Britain's most celebrated and best loved historic houses and estates, offering something for everyone to enjoy, from world famous works of art and spectacular fountains to elegant shops and more than a hundred miles of free walks. The home of the Devonshire family is set in the heart of England, in Derbyshire's Peak District National Park, surrounded by one of the most magnificent landscapes in the country.
Nestling high up in the heart of Derbyshire overlooking the famous Derwent Valley and open almost throughout the year, Crich Tramway Village is a lovingly restored period village that is also home to the National Tramway Museum and its world renowned archives.
Derbyshire is nationally famed for it's historic water-powered industries, especially in the `World Heritage Status' lower Derwent Valley where the water driven mill wheels once generated the power to work the shuttles and looms of the world's first factories. However, a few miles further upstream almost where the Derwent and Wye Valleys meet at the confluence of the two rivers, stands a unique and historic mill of a different kind which has all its original machinery - and which can still be seen in full working order!
