The Heart of England/Peak District

The Peak District is in the heart of England and is England's oldest National Park. The Peak District has some of England's finest climbing, ie Black Rocks 2km, and High Tor 2km. Walking - several long range walks within 1 1/2km of Cromford, including the High Peak Trail 1km. There are several historic houses such as Chatsworth, Hardwick and Haddon Hall - all very much in demand for location shots in the filming industry. Bakewell is famous for its Puddings, Buxton for its gardens and Opera House. Eyam for its association with the Black Death of 1666. Wirksworth for its well dressings 3km. Carsington Water offers extensive activities such as sailing, windsurfing, kayaking - tuition and hire available).

Matlock

Cromford Mills created by Richard Arkwright (claimed to be the cradle of the Industrial Revolution). For steam enthusiasts the Lea Pumping Station on Cromford Canal, 1km, has a fine example of a working steam driven beam engine which pumps water out of the Derwent into the Cromford Canal. working days take place during the year usually at Bank Holidays. This point is also the start of the High Peak Trail (approximately 30km long), ideal for cycling and walking. This was formerly the track bed of the Cromford and High Peak Railway which used to link to the canal systems in Lancashire. Matlock Bath famous for its thermal petrifying waters is built along the River Derwent and is an inland holiday resort 2km. It has cable cars leading to the Heights of Abraham . There is also Gullivers Kingdom. Between September and October the Matlock Bath illuminations take place along with the illuminated Venetian Boats and Firework displays. Crich Tramway Museum is an absolute must, especially at Bank Holidays when various events take pace. The former spa town of Matlock is 3km and offers an attractive Edwardian Park, river walks, new sports centre, steam railway, shops and restaurants.

"Great house in great location"

The house is large and clean and was exactly what we were looking for...just somewhere to hang out and catch up on a Uni reunion weekend. We weren't bothered about the décor (relatively dated), we just wanted somewhere large enough to house us with comfy beds and enough showering facilities (plenty of both - all bedrooms have en suite showers).

The owners live below the property which would have been handy if there had been any issues but you didn't see or hear them at all so you shouldn't let that put you off renting here.

The double garage is set up into a games room with a pool table, darts and a ping pong table. We spent most of our time in there playing music and just generally having fun together.

The kitchen was large enough to cook big meals for a group of 11 and the dining room was equipped with a large table and enough chairs for us to all sit and eat together as a group.

We rented the property for three nights at relatively short notice. The owners were really helpful at the booking stage, provided good directions and returned the deposit without any prompting.

The house itself is in a beautiful location – really picturesque with plenty of places to go exploring and walking. Matlock is a gorgeous little town to have a wander round.

We all had a great weekend.
Would recommend.
