The Heart of England/Peak District
The Peak District is Britain's first national park, established in 1951, visited by people from all over the world. They come to find peace, tranquillity and adventure, experiencing some of England’s finest climbing, caving, walking, cycling and canoeing. It has something for everyone from vast expanses of wild and remote landscapes to some of the prettiest and friendliest villages in the country.
The Peak District is uniquely accessible making it ideal for short breaks whilst it has facilities and attractions which would easily fill a longer break all year round .
For those preferring a more leisurely break, the Peak District has more than its fair share of stately homes, village tea shops and craft centres.
Winster is a very friendly ancient lead-mining village in the Derbyshire Peak District that has existed since as far back as the doomsday book (1086). It has many medieval buildings that date back to the hey-day of its mining legacy.
There are many intriguing narrow pathways that lead up and around the village winding past the cottages that huddle on the hillside.
The village has a National Trust Historic Market Hall, two excellent pubs, a well stocked village shop and post office, two churches, playing fields, basketball and tennis courts, and several playground areas.
The village has a busy social calendar with events such as Wakes carnival week in June and Secret Gardens in July being the main events. There are also the famous local Morris Dancers and the Guisers.
There are lots of interesting places to visit in the surrounding area all within a short drive; such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Bakwell (home of the famous Bakewell Pudding), Matlock Bath & Heights of Abraham, Carsington water and much much more......
