Villa | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
Hameau des Martres is an exclusive self catering holiday property in the heart of France - the stunning Charente Maritime. We can offer the light and spacious contemporary villa, the 200-year-old farmhouse cottage with original beams and limestone walls with all modern amenities, and the large four bedroomed stone gite, all for rental together or separately.
Villa Blanc is the owners second home and as such is furnished to a high standard. The contemporary open plan kitchen / diner has stunning views, particularly of the amazing sunsets, a feature of this property. It is very well equipped with a double fridge freezer, large stainless steel Range cooker with electric oven/grill plus 6 ring gas hob (including a wok burner) with stainless steel extractor. Matching stainless steel dishwasher, microwave, toaster, electric kettle etc. plus all crockery, glassware and cutlery needed for a very comfortable stay . Two of the double rooms at the rear of the villa have twin patio doors opening out onto a large wooden deck which overlooks the absolutely beautiful pool area. The main bathroom, once again with mosaic tiles, is huge with an enormous 270 L bath. There is a spacious lounge which has windows looking south over the village of Le Gicq and plenty of comfortable seating for all. There is also a DVD player and small selection of films. The three properties share this stunning location with its fabulous pool and grounds.
Hameau des Martres is set just outside the rural village of Le Gicq in the Charente Maritime department of the Poitou Charente in western France. An easy drive to the coast and beaches yet set in a stunning location, completely surrounded by open fields.
The entire pool area is walled, with self-locking gates and the pool is alarmed for the safety of children. The pool itself is heated to 30c with a very efficient heat pump and 12m x 5 m with a gently sloping beach style entrance so that the little ones can also play safely (with supervision naturally). There is plenty of room around the pool area for sunbathing and relaxing. Ample loungers and chairs are provided. The pool area also has a covered 'gazebo' in case you need a little shade. A table, chairs and parasol are also provided for those lazy lunches by the pool or cocktails at the end of the day to watch the amazing and uninterrupted views of the fabulous sunsets. There is a huge terrace area for sunbathing and has beautifully exotic plantings all around. The views are simply stunning and the unspoilt sunsets incredible. There is a large enclosed field to the the rear, a perfect place for the children to play especially since we have a play house and play tower with swings and slide and also a sand pit.
Please note that this is the owners second home and may not be available for rental every year, please ask. The villa is suitable for families with children over 8. If you have younger children, the gite Bleu is better suited.

The Poitou-Charentes region
You could spend your days lazing by the pool reading a book followed by aperitifs and a barbecue but it would be a shame not to explore this beautiful region so spend a morning wandering the cobbled streets of La Rochelle then head to Andrés famous seafood restaurant for an amazing platter of 'fruits de mer' ,or cross the Charente in a boat on a tour to the vast warehouses filled with barrels of Hennessy Cognac and have a taste of this liquid nectar, row a boat along the inland waterways of the marais poitevin or wander around the many local markets and pick up some fresh fish and salad for your dinner....
The Charente Maritime region is one of four departments of the Poitou Charente region of western France
It is famous for its Cognac and Pineau production with the town of Cognac and all its distilleries (Hennesey, Martell and Otard to name just a few) just a 30 min drive from Hameau des Martres cottages and villas. There are many tiny villages and hamlets to explore. Quaint chateaux are common. Local delicacies include mussels in cream, goats cheese, honey and cake with angelica.
Futuroscope at Poitiers, the wine chateaux of Bordeaux, Angouleme, Niort and Rochefort are also all within travelling distance. There is the renowned animal conservation park at La Palmyre near Royan and a superb aquarium at La Rochelle to name just a few of the things there are to visit.
The Hameau des Martres property is set on the outskirts of the village of Le Gicq, apart from an elderly French couple who live in the adjacent property there is no one else to disturb your French country holiday.
Swimming, fishing, horse riding, golf, tennis and rowing are all available during the summer months in the local area. There are also many lovely country walks all year round. The landscape is gently rolling and ideal for cycling. The popular seaside resorts around La Rochelle such as the beaches of Fouras and Chatelaillon and La grand plage on the Ils de oleron are only about an hours drive away and the historic towns of St Jean d'Angely and Saintes (roman ruins) are even closer.
