The village of Migron, with its pretty 11th century stone church, has a mini-market, baker, butchers, post office and a weekly grocer's van selling fresh local vegetables. Oysters and mussels are sold in the main square on Saturday mornings. There is a tennis court a few minutes walk away. There are miles of quiet roads and tracks through vineyards, fields of sunflowers, woodland and villages which you can explore by foot or cycle. A cot can be supplied on request

The double rooms both have king size beds, and the singles 3ft beds - all have superior sprung mattresses.

The house accommodates 10 people in bedrooms, plus baby in cot. However, there is a sprung mattress on the sofa bed in the playroom should you have an extra guest.

There is a large, well-equiped kitchen-breakfast room with doors which lead straight on to the terrace, where we eat most of our meals and spend long lazy lunches or evenings.. The other rooms downstairs are a utility room, cloakroom, play room and sitting room with a large hallway from where the stairs lead up to the first floor. Upstairs there are four large double or twin rooms, loo, shower room and family bathroom. Then a few steps through to the main bedroom which has its own en-suite and is slightly apart from the other bedrooms. There is a small landing here where there is a desk, though this could equally be an area to have a cot if needed. From this landing there is a second staircase which leads back to the kitchen.

Further details outdoors

The garden has different areas to sit and relax or eat, whether you want sun or shade. There is a table tennis room leading off the main terrace for those family tournaments! There is only one access to the walled garden, through the large gates, and once those are closed the garden is completely safe for children. Play boules in the large gravelled areas, swing in the hammock under the shade of the mulberry tree. Within the enclosed poolside area there is an old stone poolhouse with table, chairs and swing seat, looking onto the pool, as well as a large loo/changing room. The pool captures the sun from early morning to early evening.

The large swimming pool (10m x 5m) has steps into the pool the entire width, which makes it particularly good/easy for both young and old! There is an electric safety cover, as well as gates into the pool area.

There is a large teak table and chairs on the terrace outside the kitchen.

In the shaded stone poolhouse there is another table and chairs, with a swing seat.

There is an outside changing room and loo in the pool house.

Further details

A cleaner will visit mid-week and extra help arranged if required

Linen and towels provided but please bring pool and beach towels.

It is expected that the house is left in good, clean order, as you found it, with cleaning carried out and any damage reported.

Whilst general wear and tear is considered acceptable, the deposit will be used as compensation for damage or theft, or extra cleaning and laundry where necessary.

The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region

The Charente Maritime is one of the sunniest, prettiest and friendliest areas of France with approx 300 days of sunshine a year. June, July and August are the hottest, most reliable months, but from April to October you can enjoy frequent, fine warm days. Winter is mild and Spring comes early.

There is such variety in this area, from the wonderful beaches of the Cote Sauvage to the north and the Gironde to the south, and the gentle rolling countryside with the River Charente making its journey to the coast.

Another joy of this area is that it is never too busy or crowded, even in the peak season. There are so many activities and places to visit within an hour of our home (to suit every taste and age), but then you can return to a tranquil haven and the swimming pool !

In addition to the famous tipples, the region is also renowned for its food, (particularly seafood and foie gras). There are many markets and restaurants to suit all pockets.

Matha

The immediate area is famous for its Cognac and Pineau, both produced from the vineyards, that together with huge fields of sunflowers, make this area so interesting and distinctive.

The Charentaise people are very sociable and the summer agenda is filled with jazz and classical concerts, fireworks, fetes and brocantes every week of the summer.

The Charente river offers a wide range of water sport (including excellent fishing) while the countryside offers the excitement of Roman heritage, wine-tasting, cycling, horse riding, championship golf courses, tennis, birdwatching, walking (Ramblers - there are 80 signed circuits) and of course, good shopping!

One thing is sure, you will never be bored - the activities and places to visit are too numerous to mention - perhaps you will have to visit again! Below are just some of them - there are guided visits to many of them - including some by night.

"Our Summer Holiday at the Old Tabac"

It suited us very well as it was a quiet village location, the house was very private, with a lovely patio area just outside the kitchen. Just a 3 minute walk through the village and you arrive at the boulangerie which we visited every day. Also supermarket in village which was well stocked for a village store. The house was stunning just my cup of tea beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Ample space for a large extended family. The pool area was perfect just a shame the weather was not so good. I would thoroughly recommend this property and the village.
