"Villa Loiki and Matemwe is how you imagine paradise to be!"
Villa Loiki is just amazing. The location is like parade and the house is beautifully appointed with the decor carefully chosen with beautiful African prints and upholstery. When we arrived on New Year's Eve they had Christmas Trees up with fairy lights. The children jumped straight into the lovely swimming pool. It is right on the beach where the water is turquoise blue. There is complete privacy. The food by Juma and Paul was amazing. We had Lobster for New Year's Eve. Everything was so fresh and the flavours with the use of spices was amazing. Every morning there was freshly squeezed juice and freshly baked cakes or bread. There was lots of exotic fruit on the table. We had eggs cooked whatever way we wanted. The food was do good I brought home a cookbook from zanzibar hoping I can recreate it.
Amina and the the staff were so lovely and always working away quietly in the background. When you were having breakfast they made up your beds and when you were having dinner in the evening they pulled the mosquito nets, turned on the air conditioning and pulled the curtains.
Everything was laid on so professionally. When we landed in from Tanzania, Mr Bhakal picked us up at airport and drove us to the Villa where we were greeted by all the staff with fresh coconuts where the top was sliced off and we drank the milk through a straw.
We had a driver during the week who took us to Stone Town and on another day he took us to the Spice Tour. The Spice Tour was fantastic and very interesting. I guess it opened my eyes and spices are no longer just something that comes in a packet. Our driver took us out on the motor boat to snorkel at Mnemba Island. Amazing snorkelling. So many tropical fish and coral reefs.
Mianne the manager was tireless to make sure we had everything we needed at all times.
Zanzibar is a beautiful Island. We went to Stone Town where we had a lovely meal at the Archipelago restaurant. We strolled the shops and the markets where we bought fresh fruit, and vegetables. Juma got all our fish and meat fresh from local famers and fishermen. Mr Baker took my husband to the wine shop in Stone Town and there he was able to buy all his favourite wines - a Chateau Laffitte, Rustenberg from South Africa, Gigondas from France, Barolo from Italy. We were surprised to see such a fine selection of wines.
We were never harassed or bothered in Zanzibar or Tanzania as we expect in some European countries.
I can't start to describe how lovely the Zanzibar people are. They are beautiful looking. Tall with high cheek bones and graceful appearance. They are a very dignified people and work hard.
I have amazing photos from Zanzibar. I would love to go back!

"Your own private luxurious hotel!"
We had a wonderful week at Villa Loiki. Before we went, both the owner and the manager went out of their way to make sure we had all the information that we needed about the villa, Zanzibar, visa and medical requirements (yellow fever vaccination cards, malaria prophylaxis) etc and to find out any food likes and dislikes. The web pictures and description of the house sounded almost too good to be true, but Villa Loiki certainly exceeded all expectations! The very comfortable house is decorated in a mix of European and African styles, with all modern amenities (e.g. microwave, washing machine, coffee machine, MP3 player, satellite TV, internet, to name just a few) and is set in beautiful gardens with lots of space, indoor and outdoor, and privacy. Its location in Matemwe was ideal for us, as we wanted a quiet spot, and the beach in front of the house (apart from the Villa's own private beach and swimming pool!) was unspoilt, with magnificent views over the Ocean and to Mnemba Island. We were met at the airport off our late evening flight arrival and taken to the Villa, where all the staff, and the manager, were waiting to welcome us with drinks and show us around. (In fact, the manager came round every day to check that everything was ok, and was attentive and caring.) A beautiful evening meal had been prepared, and the kitchen cupboards and fridges stocked for us. In fact, there was enough food for us not to have to worry about venturing out for a few days! The staff were friendly and always willing to help without being intrusive, and made us feel like honoured guests. Nothing was too much trouble, and everyone was great with our 5-year-old. The chef was wonderful, and cooked whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted, and even made wonderful suggestions when we felt too lazy to make any decisions about what to eat! The use of the car, motor boat and sailing boat, with an assortment of snorkelling gear, was an added bonus. Our stay at the villa was unforgettable; we shall, and have recommended it, and will endeavour to go again if we get the opportunity.
