Set on top of a hill our spacious, comfortable gite is within a converted barn. 3 double bedrooms with en suites. Fully equipped kitchen with french doors onto a covered terrace. The light and airy dining/sitting room has french windows leading into the garden and in view of the fully alarmed solar heated pool.
Ideal self-catering holiday home for families and couples alike, who enjoy the peace of the countryside. Only 5-10 minutes away from 2 pretty villages - Gensac and Pellegrue - with supermarkets, boulangeries, chemists, doctors, restaurants, bars and banks. Alfresco dining from our terrace with wonderful views, fantastic sunrises and sunsets to enjoy.
Plenty of different walks on your doorstep, through vines and forests. Deer, hares and plenty of birds, so bring your binoculars. Good cycling on quiet roads for all levels.
Well equipped, spacious comfortable house with TV, DVD/CD surround sound system and Wifi.

With its metre thick stone walls, oak beams, terracotta floors, roman tiled roof and wood-burning stove, our spacious, restored and comfortably furnished barn lets you know that you are on holiday in France. En-suite bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen , well planted garden with heated swimming pool for your exclusive use. 2 covered areas for alfresco dining all providing a perfect base for a self catering holiday.
The owners, Jan and Jim Pyper live on the same site but have their own garden which does not overlook yours. Your privacy is assured but the owners are available for assistance, directions, local information, babysitting, garden and pool maintenance to ensure that you have a worry free holiday. We also have a very well behaved and gentle Spanish Galgo dog called Ray, a wirecoated dachshund called Dolly, and a black cat called Purdy none of whom will invade your space unless invited to do so.
Complimentary welcome pack. Meals on arrival or during stay can be arranged. Child-minding and baby-sitting available.

Though the house has a maximum of 3 bedrooms, out of peak season with are able to offer 1 or 2 bedroomed options. The house has been designed so that bedrooms can be closed off or added on, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region
Massugas is situated in the Gironde but only a few kilometres from the borders of the Dordogne and Lot et Garonne. Set in the Bordeaux wine region, with Bergerac, Duras, Entre Deux Mer are closeby. The historic city of Bordeaux with its galleries, museums and shopping is 1 hour away. The world reknowned town of St Emillion, famous for its wine and appreciation off is 30 minutes away. The Dordogne river is 10 minutes away where boat trips and canoe hire are available. The local bastide towns of Ste Foy La Grande, Duras, Monsegur, Sauveterre de Guyanne, Castillion de la Battaile and Bergerac are all within 30 minutes with a different market each day.
The Massugas area
The village and commune of Massugas is set amongst the vineyards of the Bordeaux region. The village has its own lake set in an attractive picnic area where locals and visitors can fish for free. Every weekend there is usually one of the local villages en fete which are fun to join in with and really experience the local culture and food. There are plenty of restaurants nearby to suit all budgets and tastes.
Local vignerons including organic wine producers are happy to offer visits and tastings. Most weekends in the spring and summer there are vide greniers and brocantes (car boot/antique fairs). A good way to spend a Sunday morning is looking for a bargain!
An outdoor re-enactment of the last battle of the Hundred Years' War is held every summer in Castillion de la Bataille, really worth a visit. Gensac holds its renowned outside theatre each August, together with musical evenings for all tastes. In June, Monsegur holds its world famous Festival of Swing, 24 hours of Jazz.

We stayed at Guillemassot in July 2012. 2 familes; 4 adults and 4 children under 5 and a baby. Despite the house only having 3 bedrooms, we had plenty of space and never felt cramped. The communal areas are bright and airy and cool (it was very hot at times) and the pool and vast gardens provided hours of amusement for the children. The surrounding areas are beautiful with loads to explore; Lac de Gurson was a winner, as well as Duras, Bergerac and St Emilion. There's also a water park near Bergerac that the children loved. We had a wonderful, relaxing and fabulous holiday and Jim and Jan were wonderful hosts; always on hand to answer questions but not in the least obtrusive and Jim's tractor rides were the highlight for the kids! Would definitely recommend it. Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review and are so pleased that you had an enjoyable holiday. Jim and I both loved having you all to stay, the boys were fantastic and a lot of fun too. Over this winter we are putting in a 4th bedroom and bathroom to provide extra accommodation, plus from next year will be open all year round. Again thank you from us all at Guillemassot. |

We stayed at Guillemassot in June of 2012 and were very impressed. My wife and I were very excited about visiting the SW of France and staying at Guillemassot exceeded our lofty expectations. The old country house has been renovated to perfection by the owners and you instantly feel like you have lived there for years. Jan and Jim are very knowledgable of the surrounding area and are very welcoming into their home. The house is situated on pristine land surrounded by vineyards on all 4 sides. My wife and I feel very lucky to have been able to stay at Guillemassot and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing, beautiful, peaceful holiday. Don't forget to sample the local fair!! I stayed at this property in June 2012 with both friends, fiancee and 1 year old daughter. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt relaxed, comfortable and happy - this is a real home from home place. We were greeted with smiles from the hosts and enjoyed a tipple or two with them on the odd occasion which made the trip all the more enjoyable. We had great sunshine but if it had rained then the house is spacious and certainly comfortable enough enjoy time indoors. Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed Jan & Jim's dogs, running around the lovely landscaped gardens and a dip in the beautiful pool. I would definitely recommend this property and are already looking to book again next year. Just wish we could move in!!! |
