The Loire Valley region

Walnut Cottage is nestled on the border of Southern Brittany and the Loire Atlantique and is within easy reach of the many beaches and attractions both regions have to offer.

Enjoy the bustling local markets where you can buy fresh local produce or relax in one of the many bars and restaurants in the area to sample the local specialities. The stunning beaches of South West Brittany are all within easy reach and there are many beautiful swimming lakes closeby. The historic cities of Nantes and Rennes offer a great day out, be sure not to miss the giant mechanical elephant in Nantes!

Walking through open countryside or why not make use of the large selection of bicycles for all the family and cycle along quiet lanes and river tow-paths, there are no end of hidden hamlets and villages to discover. An abundance of rivers and lakes offer lots of opportunities for those keen on fishing or if you prefer a relaxing game of golf, there are many courses in the region.

For family fun, Les Naudieres Park is a great attraction park offering a fun day out. Karting, 15 different huge bouncy castles, the luge and plenty more to keep the whole family amused. Branfere Park offers an open

air animal park with interesting animals from around the world. Set in the grounds of Château Branféré

the children will love to feed some of the animals. Tepacap Park is a fantastic outdoor activity theme

park set around a lake for children, offering different areas for different age groups.

The pretty village of Masserac still retains it's rustic charm. Begin your day by taking a gentle 5-minute stroll to the local boulangerie to buy your fresh bread and croissants for breakfast. The village also offers a cafe-bar and grocery shop, a childs playground and why not treat yourself to a beauty treatment at the well-being centre.

Another 10 minutes away is the lively town of Guemene Penfao where you will find supermarkets, an

indoor swimming pool, canoe hire for paddling along the River Don & pony trekking. Fishing

enthusiasts can take advantage of the many lakes and rivers surrounding La Cour and the private

fishing lake just a couple of minutes away from the cottages.

There are several beautiful swimming lakes with beaches, picnic areas and watersports and outdoor

swimming pools with slides all within 15 minutes from La Cour. The nearest beaches are located in the

charming French holiday towns of Damgan and Penestin, both with stunning sandy beaches and

a good selection of shops and restaurants, just 37 miles from cottage to beach. The larger resorts of LaTurballe & La Baule, where white sandy beaches stretch for several miles, are also within easy reach.

Just 15 kms away is the ancient trading town of Redon where the Nantes-Brest Canal meets the River Vilaine, explore the many shops and restaurants in and around the old port, there is a lively weekly market and indoor / outdoor swimming pool.

"A wonderfully relaxing place to stay"

We have stayed for a week at Walnut cottage almost every year for the last 16 years, and every time we cannot believe how wonderfully relaxing it is to stay in this part of Brittany. In the past we have driven there, but this time cycled from Roscoff - four easy days cycling on very quiet roads. From the moment you arrive, to a very friendly greeting from Tony & Maria, the cottage and large private garden tell you the week is going to be a great relaxing break. The cottage itself is well equipped with plenty of room for 4 people. It always seems to be warm and sunny for us (we've stayed in February, April, May, September and October), but the wood burner means that even if the weather turns colder you can stay warm indoors. The private garden is very quiet, and with the deckchairs provided allows you to catch up on those unread books before firing up the barbeque ! At night the absence of street lighting lets you star gaze in absolute wonderment. Paimbu is a very quiet hamlet, but restaurants (of amazing value), shops, supermarkets and swimming pools are all close at hand; beaches and a wide selection of places to visit ( with or without children) are a relatively short drive away. Alternatively, just use the bicycles available for free to explore the local area including a route along the nearby river. Tony & Maria live 'on site' and are always around to help with any queries or advice on places to visit - nothing is too much trouble for them it seems! So, if you want a chance to escape the hurly burly of the daily grind, then Paimbu is THE place to find peace and quiet; we promise you won't be disappointed.
