Palazzo Grassi is an ancient residence located in a whitewashed street in the historic center of Martina Franca, in the now very popular southern part of Puglia. The palace was built in 1783 for the noble family of the Grassi barons, which also gives its name to the Grassi Foundation which has been organizing the Valle d'Itria Festival in the summer since 1974. An event for which Martina is appreciated in the world together with the Baroque, the "Masserie" and its "Trulli" protected by UNESCO.
Located in via Principe Umberto with exclusive access right in front of the church dedicated to San Domenico, whose facade is certainly the most admirable example of the Martinese baroque, Palazzo Grassi extends over three floors for an area of about 250 square meters and is classified as a building of historical importance by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage for its "horizontal structure set on masonry vaults resting on load-bearing walls of considerable thickness".
The structure, originally built in 1500 and then rearranged by the Grassi barons two centuries later, can accommodate up to six people sharing an independent entrance, cellar, sink, kitchen, a large dining room with a small internal garden, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and several terraces also equipped with a wood-burning oven from which you can eat while admiring the panorama of one of the most beautiful Baroque districts of Puglia (Cathedral of San Martino, Palazzo Ducale, Convent of the Augustinians), as well as enjoying an amazing view of the landscape on the countryside of an important region for the production of wine, as well as the cultivation of olive trees, cereals and a great variety of fruit and vegetables.
This pierre de taille mansion, built on three floors according to the typical layout of aristocratic houses, is about 260 m² and offers 4 delightful bedrooms -with an en-suite bathroom as well as many other fascinating rooms including an impressive sitting-room. The entrance is located under a beautiful arched ceiling.
On the ground floor you will find the kitchen; the bathroom; a cabin; a little garden (15 sqm), and the frescoed sitting-room which can seat up to 20 people. On the upper floor you will find a spacious and bright studio room with a very long balcony. On the second floor there is a lovely terrace (50 sqm) with stunning views which is ideal for cocktails. The terrace includes a typical old "forno" for outside cooking and grilling and a concrete table that can accommodate up to 8 persons. On the third floor there are three bedrooms, one double with an en-suite bathroom and two single, and they all have the Martina Franca typical arched ceilings and beautiful views.
Salento and the most fashionable destinations in the area are all close and reachable in a short time, i.e. Alberobello, Lecce, Ostuni, Trani, Castel del Monte, Gravina, Matera, Santa Maria di Leuca, Savvelletri ...
Possibility of organizing horse rides, visits to farms and agro-wineries for guests.
