About the home

Maison Chambon is a Maison du Maitre house nestling in the hamlet of Pomie. Markets in both Souillac and Martel 3 times a week Sarlat and the Dordogne within half an hours drive. The house is set in large grounds with a good sized swimming pool. . Rocamadour /Pech Merle to name a few of the sites of importance nearby and if you are looking for an activity there is both canoeing/paragliding within 4 kms.The countryside around Pomie is fascinating. The majestic Dordogne river cuts a swathe through the valley beneath the village, providing the perfect amenity for visitors who enjoy fishing, canoeing or swimming. There are also some awe inspiring lookout points, where visitors have an eagle-view of the river, the vast expanse of land and the mountains beyond. If you enjoy walking, there is no shortage of wonderful walks, immediately accessed from the property and also close-by.The medieval town of Martel, just four miles away, is home to a busy market, which takes place each Wednesday and Saturday. Here, in the environs of historic and architectural gems, visitors can chose from in-season vegetables and fruit, to local cheeses, foie Gras and of a course the delectable local 'Cahors' wine. There are also colourful craft, clothing, and jewellery stalls. The cobblestone, partially enclosed square is the venue for a weekly dance during the summer months. From early in the evening until early in the morning, locals and tourists alike are entertained by the sounds of a big band and practically everyone takes to the dance floor.

“Beautiful house in beautiful area” From the moment you arrive it is clear that Maison Chambon is special. From the eclectic mix of furnishings to the diverse and interesting paintings and drawings that cover the walls, Maison Chambon is a charming, peaceful hideaway nestled in one of the most beautiful areas of France that I have visited. The house had everything we needed for a wonderfully relaxing holiday and the unobtrusive but ever so helpful house keeper Fiona was the icing on the cake. The area around the house is breathtakingly beautiful with its quaint medieval villages, meandering rivers and walnut trees. We were lucky enough to be visited in the garden by Hoopoe's and Cuckoos and each morning as I breakfasted by the pool I was honoured with an aerial display from a group of Buzzards! If you wish to you.can find something to entertain you every day in this area and Rocmadour and Sarlat are both within easy reach and offer different but interesting days out. For me though the highlight of this holiday has been the house, it's beautiful gardens and the pool. My only wish is that the house was for sale! We will most certainly be coming again and I wholeheartedly recommend this property as a wonderful holiday destination. Thank you Miranda for sharing your beautiful home with us.
