About the home
This charming gîte sleeps from two to five people and is ideal for a relaxing stay. Situated on a quiet country lane and with wonderful views at every turn, this superbly built and traditionally furnished house has a large double height living room with an open fireplace, big kitchen/diner and generous bathroom on the ground floor.
Upstairs is the large main bedroom with an alcove used as a little offce. There is an outside annexe with sleeping accommodation for two teenagers, perhaps? Visit famous Rocamadour and the Plus Beaux Villages de France of which we are close to seven!
Cave lovers will enjoy Padirac, Pech Merle and Lascaux; . shoppers Brive market, Sarlat and Terrasson. Walkers and bird watchers, cyclists and hang gliders, canoeists and tree walkers - and many more sport activites are within easy reach

Cazillac is in the northern part of the department called Lot in the Midi-Pyrenees in south west France and is served by good road, air and rail links. Brive airport has flights to London City and Manachester airports maming a weekend break a great option as the gite is just twenty minutes away. There are other airports at, Limoges, Bergerac and Toulouse all of which are within two hours maximum. The area has pleasant Sping weather, hot dry summers, warm autumns, and cold wet winters which may acount for the lovely green countryside!
Lot boasts 420 protected sites including Rocamadour, Pech Merle, Martel, Carennac, St Cirq Lapopie and Padirac. Near to Sarlat, Collonges La Rouge, Beaulieu sur Dordogne and many more places of interest. Turenne, just ten minutes drive away, is a perfectly preserved medieval village with its narrow streets, towers and turrets and a maze of ancient secret tunnels. The Vicomte of the past once owned all he could see - which included Cazillac!! The famous Dordogne River runs throught Lot and there are many places from which to enjoy a canoe trip.
The Martel / Cazillac area
Cazillac is within the canton of Martel, a medieval town known for its seven towers. A Wednesday market in the lovely Market Square is not to be missed - you can even dance there in the summer evenings! Lots of restaurants, a museum, shops - and the tourist train that takes you along the Dordogne valley nearby. You can enjoy a barbeque at Curemonte on a Wednesday or a barbeque and dancing at Saillac on a Friday. Both places have a market where you can buy your food and drink before joining others at long tables - very French and great fun. There are various firework and son et lumiere displays at various times, village parties and 'vide greniers' (a little like car boot sales, but with some lovely extras!) - we will tell you what is happening when you get here!
We have a wonderful selection of restaurants from the Michelin starred to the Bon Gournand, to the local workers' cafe - so something to suit all tastes. We can also arrange for an excellent catered meal at home cooked for you by an ex-restauranter.
Take a picnic to the river and swim from one of the hidden beaches. Walkers will be able to join part of the Compostela pilgim route which passes through this area. You can take a balloon flight, go rock climbing, riding, water-skiing and more - all within easy reach.

We couldn't have been more pleased with Gite Diane. Its in the most idyllic quiet setting perfect for the kind of relaxing holiday we were looking for. Inside the property is simply gorgeous, with a huge inglenook fireplace slap bang in the centre of a lovely exposed stone living room. There is a great kitchen which has everything you need and a sweet bathroom. All in all I couldn't fault the property and surroundings, just a few minutes drive to the local shops and so many lovely places to visit in the area. The couple who manage the property are really helpful and happy to advise on the best places to go, to eat and to explore. Fortunately they only live around the corner so whilst not too close were close enough to pop in and speak to for ideas on anything. Its perfect for those looking for a relaxing 'get away from it all' holiday. If action's your game this isn't for you. Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed it so much - and it's good to know you are returning this year! |
