The Languedoc-Roussillon region

This typical Minervois village on the Canal du Midi is only 15 minutes from the Medieval City of Carcassonne. It is an ideal place from which to explore the Languedoc region.

You can tour the local countryside through the pretty french villages taking in the local markets and vineyards where you can samplethe wines and purchase wine at local prices.

Visit the Cathar castles around Carcassonne and explore the mystery of Rennes le Chateau and the Knights Templar.

The Languedoc area enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year. The Mediterranean beaches of Narbonne & Leucate are just 40 minutes away. Closer to home, 10 minutes there is a lakeside beach for swimming.

Take advantage of the location and visit the nearby cities of Toulouse, Montpelier or Barcelona - all accessible by train or motorway. A drive to the beautiful Costa Brava in Northern Spain is only 2 hours away.

The Medieval city of Carcassonne is a major attraction in the South of France and a must-see for anyone visiting the region. On bastille day there is a massive fireworks display at the old Cite. During the summer months, there are many outdoor events scheduled in Carcassonne ranging from Opera to rock concerts. Some of these events are free of charge, however, it may be necessary to check if tickets are required for larger events.

The main City of Carcassonne has many shops, bars and restaurants around and off the main square - Place Carnot. There is a large market here on Saturday where you can experience real french life after which you can enjoy lunch around the square.

Marseillette is a typical french wine producing village on the Canal du Midi. The neighbouring town of Trebes (5 mins away) is a main port of call for the Canal du Midi, where you can hire boats or just take a short trip on the Canal.

The nearby lakes ( Jouarre & Cavayere) offer swimming and watersports. Walking and cycling are popular pastimes. The more energetic can enjoy hiking in the Montagne Noir. For a relaxing stroll, the Canal du Midi is the perfect place. The Golf Club in Carcassonne is open to visitors and clubs can be hired. The bistro restaurant in the Golf Club have a lovely lunch menu very reasonably priced.

There is an adventure park 15 minutes away on the outskirts of Carcassonne- great activity for the children.

"An authentic taste of the Languedoc"

We enjoyed a week in this house in a traditional and typical Languedoc village. The weather in late September was lovely and the house has two excellent outdoor spaces, a courtyard and a roof terrace. The sleepy village has one excellent boulangerie that also sells (excellent) wine and other grocery items. The house and village were perfect for exploring the area by car and the village is surrounded by vineyards. Carcassonne is a short drive away. Eileen was very helpful and the house was ready for us when we arrived with the keys in a key safe at the front door. Our only criticism is that the beds were a bit soft for us and the bedding could perhaps be upgraded. However we had a wonderful time and would recommend this house and village to anyone wanting to discover or re-visit the delights of the Pays de Cathars.

"Sleeping Gem"

We have just returned from the Le Midi and had a wonderful time, The property is situated in a traditional Village only a stone's throw from Carcass ion and within easy reach of the med coast About 35 min drive to the coast and 10 Mins to Carcassion
The views from the roof terrace are breathtaking overlooking the mountains and many vineyards around you. The property is well maintained and practical set over three floors There is plenty to keep the kids busy as there are children's games and a pool table also Play station. The shared pool is not an issue, we shared with the family that was next door and did not have any problems, It is also cool which is a god send during the warmer season, On the middle terrace there Vines growing with grapes and fresh figs which were tasty and refreshing. The evenings can be very warm although the fans provided do there job, you may have to drink an extra glass of Wine before bed time well that is my excuse. All in all the property was excellent and my family and i will be returning at some stage.
When you visit the property make sure you go and swim at Lac de la cavalyer which is only 5 mins away and is in glorious setting with sandy beaches and clear cool water
