The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region
The Languedoc-Rousillon region boasts 300 days of sunshine each year. Since this area is one of the premier places for winemaking, there are vineyards everywhere, and the temperatures reflect this each year. Expect summer in Marseillan to be hot.
Temperatures in excess of 85 degrees are fairly standard and the heat is arid rather than humid, so is more enjoyable and tolerable than other countries. Since this is the Mediterranean, the summer generally lasts long into October. See our web site for more information.
Marseillan area
Marseillan is a lovely fishing village situated on the shores of the inland sea known as the Etang de Thau, famous for the cultivation of mussels and oysters, as well as the entry point of the Canal du Midi. Approximately 3 km away is the sandy beach stretching 18 km all the way to Sete. The sea is shallow making the beach very safe for children.
Marseillan provides the ideal holiday base to explore the surrounding area including the medieval towns of Pezenas & Agde, the busy cities of Montpellier and Beziers, and the wine producing villages of Pomerols and Pinet. Whether you spend your time in Marseillan or venture further afield, there is so much to do and so many ways to sample traditional french life.
From enjoying the many markets, sampling the many restaurants in the village, to simply relaxing in the Mediterranean sun.
