The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region

The Languedoc-Roussillon area is one of the most beautiful in France. With stunning mountain scenery, fantastic rivers and gorges and some of the longest stretches of golden "blue flag" beaches, this area is a must for anyone looking for a holiday full of variety, great food and superb local wines. The buzzy city of Montpellier is half an hour away, historic Carcassonne, Avignon and Nimes are all an easy drive. There are also great activities for kids of all ages, from canoeing, to sailing, to ice skating, to dinosaur parks, this is a regin that really does has something for everyone.

Marseillan area

Marseillan is a beautiful, unspoiled port town, located on the Etang de Thau, which is renowned for its mussel and oyster cultivation. Luckily, Marseillan is a protected heritage town, so it has remained unchanged for centuries. There are numerous restaurants and bars, perfect for everything from a light meal to gourmet dining as 3 of its restaurants are recommended in the famous Michelin guide.

Marseillan is host to a number of great festivals, including the "greasy pole" festival, normally held on Bastille Day, the 14th of July. During the summer months there are night markets held in the town centre, every Friday night, which are full of atmosphere. Year round, the Tuesday market draws people from far and wide, whether to buy fresh vegetables, olives, local cheeses, exchange books, or just browse, it has it all.
