The Island of Malta region
The Maltese islands are often referred to as the islands of sunshine because the weather and climate have a typically Mediterranean flavor. A family friendly destination, Malta holidays have something for everybody, no matter what age you are and what you're interested in.
Boasting over 6,000 years of civilisation, history oozes from its every pore and if you're fascinated by culture and heritage, the island is scattered with amazing archaeological artifacts and historical sites. Holidays to Malta are also a walker's paradise with plenty of charming towns and villages to explore alongside its beautiful coastline with its shimmering blue seas - ideal for divers.
When it comes to sun tans, Malta has some of the Mediterranean's finest beaches to laze away those hot and sunny days. What better way to relax after a day on the beach than a tranquil evening in one of the many elegant restaurants in Malta or, if you're feeling up to it, you can party late into the night.
With an abundance of low cost flights operating between the UK and Malta and a flight time of less than 3 hours from London, Malta holidays are perfect place to enjoy a week or fortnight's break as well as becoming a more popular destination for a mini-break
Malta's temperatures remain very stable with hot, dry summers, warm and sometimes wet autumns and a relatively short, cool winter. Its annual average temperature throughout the year is a warm 18° Celsius, and even in winter, it rarely falls below 10° Celsius. At the height of the summer when Malta holidays are most popular, however, you can expect temperatures to reach 30° Celsius or more- perfect for working up a healthy tan!
No holiday to Malta would be complete without a visit to its capital Valletta. Here, you'll find magnificent cathedrals, ancient fortifications, museums, historic churches and some of the finest restaurants on the island as well as plenty of shopping. Mdina, known as the Silent City is a beautiful serene place, meander the cool shaded cobbled streets, visit the historical chapels & churches, stop for a cool refreshments in the shaded courtyards or overlooking the whole of Malta, or browse the little individual shops. A lovely experience and one of our favourite places.
It's also well worth a ferry or catamaran trip to go and visit its neighbouring islands of Gozo and Comino and you can even take in several Italian ports and visit the island of Sicily on a day trip.
Marsaxlokk, the most photographed Maltese village, is one of the oldest ports in Malta. It’s name is derived from the words Mersa Sciroc, meaning “port to the south-east” named by the Saracens during their occupation of the Maltese islands from 870AD-1090AD
Being a natural harbour Marsaxlokk has been used by the various inhabitants of the Maltese islands. There is evidence of this at an archaeological site to the east of Marsaxlokk at Tas Silg, pronounced Tas silch. This area takes it’s name from a nearby Christian church dedicated to Our lady of the Snow, “silg” in maltese means snow, ice, hail or frost
Marsaxlokk is Malta’s largest fishing village accommodating 250 registered fishing vessels, these colourful boats come in a diverse range of shapes and sizes ranging from the large modern “skuna”, the medium sized traditional maltese boat “luzzu” to the small “fregatina” (rowing boat). Despite the different sizes and ages of the boats, all the boats are painted in the traditional colours of yellow, blue and green, many of them have the “eyes of Osiris” on the prow of the boat.
A statue of the patron saint of fisherman St Andrew stands proudly in Marsaxlokk square looking towards the sea. Another beautiful statue of Our Lady in a luzzu stands above Marsaxlokk church looking out towards the sea. Marsaxlokk church is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary The Madonna of Pompeii, there are various village feasts (festa) with religious processions and spectacular firework displays in honour of Our Lady, 8th May, 1st Sunday in August and 1st Sunday in October. Inside the church one can view the statue of the Madonna and Child, which came from Lecce in Italy in 1900.
Try out the fabulous fish restaurants, stroll around the Sunday fruit and veg market and the daily craft markets. Lots of bars & restaurants for you to soak up the sun & the joys of this wonderful village. There is also a local beach tucked away and only 5 mins from the apartment.
There are good bus links to Valletta so a car is not essential but is a nice to have. The buses are fun & cheap. Valetta is the hub and you can go anywhere in the island once you are there.

"Huge rooftop terrace with well presented apartment"
Spent a lovely week here in Marsaxlokk and had a very enjoyable holiday. The apartment is spacious and well furnished and the roof terrace is a bonus. The views to the bay are a little restricted by the buildings opposite. There are many excellent restaurants in the town and these can get very busy at lunch time when lots of visitors arrive for the day, but whilst we were there the evenings were very quiet with few people in the restaurants.
Very easy to get to from the airport, and in a good location for visiting the island.

"Great apartment, great location"
Lovely penthouse & accomodation. Inside the Penthouse it is stunning, large open living dining & kitchen area leading to the massive terrace. We loved the kitchen and it's open plan layout, it is fully kitted out including dishwasher. Village is great lots of bars and restaurants within a few mins, recommend the Tartarum for a special meal but lots for all tastes & budget. The Sunday market is a must. A nice stay with everything we could want.

This is the very first time we have booked over the internet and we were not dissapointed everything worked out great. The accomodation was a great place to stay and as we were visiting friends who live there. The location was perfect for us and I could see my friends house when we were out on the sun terrace. The Penthouse has everything you need and more you will love it. Masaxlokk is a lovely fishing village and we found every one very friendly. Would definately go back to the Penthouse. The owner was very helpfull and friendly and nothing was to much trouble. Any questions I asked she would always send a reply to my email. It was a lovely special family holiday.
