The Island of Malta region
There are so many reasons why one can fly to Malta, and spend a good week here. If you are a history buff, this can be said to be the place to visit. There are castles, all kinds of fortifications, palaces, churches, and rich artistic heritage that have made Malta one of those Mediterranean islands with so much to admire. If one is addicted to military history, there are to be visited the kilometres of fortifications from the early Bronze Age down to the Second World War, military and aviation museums and even World War Two rock-cut shelters.
Malta has also been described as an archaeological paradise, with its unique prehistoric remains. These are considered as the oldest free standing buildings in the world, and they are awe-inspiring.
If you are interested in the rich cultural heritage, then there is the possibility to immerse oneself in the myriad of traditional activities. Being it one of the national festivities that are held throughout the year, the historical re-enactments with a variety of historical events, as well as the religious festivals, one is spoilt for choice. The religious festivals give a feeling of authenticity, as these are not played for the tourist, but rather they are the main annual event of the locality, organised by the locals for their own enjoyment.
Why Malta, if not for the clear blue seas and skies, and mild weather that is to be found. The sea is an ever inviting place to explore, relax or even to practice scuba diving. The weather is perfect for the winter holiday during which one can explore the countryside with its lanes, narrow passages, small fields, characteristic farmhouses and other countryside architectural heritage. It is the right time to visit the various small villages, with their modern houses, but with a medieval core.
Malta is the place where one can have a good relaxing holiday, enjoying any type of activity that can be imagined, and end the day with good food. One can either enjoy the gastronomic delights of different cuisines from around the world. Yet, there is also the temptation to taste the local cuisine, with the many restaurants all over the island that provide a good deal. Fish is a speciality and one cannot go wrong with a plate of fresh fish. Local food is not restricted to the meals, but a lot of small shops provide one with the possibility of tasting some real good Maltese delicacies – the pastizzi, imqaret, and many others.
Why Malta? Because it is the place to visit, to relax and enjoy.
Marsascala offers you a relaxed atmosphere while still boasting a myriad of activities. The immediate area includes a number of well known restaurants and entertainment venues. Be it a quick snack or a full blown fish banquet, it is only a short drive away. You can walk along the picturesque promenade while on your way to dinner and get to know the locals who will undoubtedly be coming from or going to the same restaurants. An evening walk or an early morning job along the popular Marsascala promenade is an experience in itself.
Marsascala is also very close to the old town of Zejtun which is a typical Maltese Village surrounding a church. At Zejtun you can truly experience the Maltese way of living. The well know fishing village of Marsaxlokk is also close by. Like Marsacala, this village is much sought after for its fish restaurants. Marsaxlokk is very popular with tourists and locals alike for its fresh fish market which is set up every morning. You should reserve a morning for a stroll through this busy market and enjoy seeing fresh Mediterranean fish being sold and then order a fish lunch in one of the many restaurants that encircle the picturesque bay. The bay is usually full of traditional Maltese fishing boats unless you visit during a time when the fishermen are out fishing of course!
Five of our six villas are strategically located between Marsascala, Zejtun and Marsaxlokk thus offering you the serenity of the countryside while still being a stone’s throw away from the town centres. Villa Watersedge as its name implies is located literally on a pristine rocky beach in Marsascala.
Marsascala is also very popular for its beaches. The area includes rocky and sandy beaches within a few minutes walk of each other. On the beach you will really have the opportunity of meeting the locals as the beaches are usually very busy during the hot summer months.
Diving is a very popular sport in Malta and there are over 7000 qualifies divers and numerous diving schools. In Marsascala it is very easy to set up a taster dive or to hire equipment if you are a qualified diver from the local diving club.
Transport is catered for by the new Arriva bus system, self and chauffeur driven car hire, and taxi services. Bus stops are located within half a kilometre from each other and buses are very frequent. GPS systems are obviously recommended because although Malta is a small country, there is certainly a lot to see and do. The popular Maltese nightlife areas of Paceville, Sliema and Bugibba are only minutes away by car from Marsascala.
