About the home
Simplicity itself, this understated yet well appointed apartment provides spacious bedrooms (sleeps 5 total), living room, kitchen, bathroom, shower room, 2 balconies to enjoy the morning and afternoon sunshine.
Its hill side position provides a stunning view point for the entire valley all the way to the sea, far away enough to be quiet, close enough to be strolling distance to the quayside eateries (5mins sauntering will take you straight to the bay).
Kick back on the front balcony with a G&T to soak up the sun from midday till sunset - my favourite place!

The Island of Gozo region

Gozo, the sister island of Malta, remains an undiscovered paradise, unspoilt by mass tourism. Measuring only 9 miles by 4 - and only three miles from Malta - Gozo has 35 miles of varied and spectacular coastline. Its rural landscape has hills, deep valleys and rugged cliffs giving natural shelter to the island's small harbours and inlets.
Life ambles along at a peaceful, uncluttered pace, centred around the small farming and fishing communities. Walk on the shady side of slow - trust me - the heat will win in the summer. Privacy and seclusion are of course easy to find - just keep walking!
Located parallel to the North African coast, Gozo enjoys stable weather conditions: warm in winter, hot in summer (it can be balmy; please use your sun cream!). In springtime the valleys are carpeted in wild flowers and everywhere is green and vibrant. Look out for big waves in April and October - it starts to warm up and the wind and waves can be spectacular.
July and August are the months for fiestas: every village puts on lavish celebrations in honour of their patron saints - look out for fireworks off the hill tops, and twinkly lights round the churches.
Eating out you are spoiled for choice. Seaside restaurants will serve you fish caught only hours before, alongside fresh locally grown vegetables, and home-cooked bread from the local bakery is delicious. Together with a bottle of local wine, you can expect to pay around €13.00 for a substantial meal. For lunch or a snack, the Italian influence of pizza and pasta are of excellent quality, or you can try the local specialities - Timpana and Bragioli.
The Marsalforn area
Get yourself a little hire car or a bike from the local rental place and just go exploring - its the best way to enjoy the island. Just go, get lost, and have fun.
Sights, Sounds and Strolling:
+ Salt Pans - see real rock salt in the making
+ Ramla Bay - the long sandy beach nestling under Calypso's Cave
+ Azure Window, Inland Sea and Fungus Rock - stunning cliff feature & dive location
+ Blue Lagoon at Comino (just off Hondoq) - beautiful crystal clear water - boat trips locally available
+ Mgarr ix Xini - tucked out that way inlet with secluded beach (handy snack bar for those "oh alright just a quick bite to eat then" moments - and its all fresh caught, fresh cooked, and very tasty)
+ Ta Cenc - history buffs look up Knights Templar/Knights of Malta
+ Churches - all of them; stunning stonework & simple services
There is also a rich cultural heritage to Gozo and the festas, fireworks and fairs are excellent. For more information about Gozo and the local area, places to see, things to do, click on: http://www.visitmalta.com/island-hopping
DIVING:
PADI & BSAC Schools are on your doorstep and offer everything from "what's a snorkel?" to "see you in an hour or so".
+ Gozo Aqua Sports: www.gozoaquasports.com (excellent 5* PADI IDC centre)
Other dive centres are available, but I've known these for 10 years now

| Nearest Travel Links | |
| Airport: | Luqa (Valleta, Malta): 40 km |
| Ferry: | Mgarr (Gozo) & Cirkewwa (Malta): 3 km |
Gozo is one of the little islands off the Maltese Mainland - about 40km by road and ferry. Its the unspoilt, rustic little jewel of the Mediterranean - perfect for the total get-away from all of today's 24x7 always on world.
HOW TO GET HERE
----------------------------
You will need to fly to Malta (MLA) (obviously it depends where you start from!). A wide range of operators fly here including:
+ Air Malta (www.airmalta.com)
+ EasyJet (www.easyjet.com)
+ Lufthansa (www.lufthansa.com)
+ Ryan Air (www.ryanair.com)
+ BMI (www.flybmi.com)
+ Alitalia (www.alitalia.com)
+ Air France (www.airfrance.com)
+ Emirates (www.emirates.com)
+ Transavia (www.transavia.com)
Best to check with your local operators- early bird bookings tend to get better flight prices!
Once you've landed you have a choice of transport to the ferry port Cirkewwa (its about 45minutes away):
TAXIS
--------
There is a taxi rank just at the end of the Arrivals Hall. This operates 24hrs a day. All the drivers are helpful, all have big cars (typically Mercedes) if you have lots of luggage. Expect to pay about €35 for the trip to Cirkewwa. Extra charges may apply if you have packed the kitchen sink.
BUS
------
Haven't got definite confirmation of the Ferry-Airport shuttle service yet so do NOT count this one as a transfer option just yet!
BOOKABLE TRANSFERS
-----------------------------------
There are now 2 transfer services in operation that I know of BUT these will NOIT take you direct to the apartment. They will however drop you at the nearest major hotel (Calypso on the quayside).
Best to check: http://www.maltatransfer.com and http://www.resorthoppa.com/ for ticketing, pricing and booking
CAR HIRE
--------------
All the main operators are just inside the Arrivals Hall.
Its very easy to book on line in advance to reserve your vehicle, and the rental car park is 5 minutes (really) from the exit doors to the terminal. If you exit the building, head towards the diagonal right far end of the car park - all the rental vehicles are in this one car park, all clearly "labelled" for each operator.
For the best deals try:
+ Hertz (www.hertz.com)
+ Thrifty (www.thrifty.com)
+ Sixt (www.sixt.com)
+ Avis (www.avis.com)
+ Europcar (www.europcar.com)
+ Budget (www.budget.com)
Its always worthwhile checking for the best deals, especially if you take advantage of facilities offered by airine operators' partner companies. Depending on the vehicle you want, then prices do vary - a typical "average" family car that seats 4 people and lug your bags round will cost about €150 for a week.
The route you need is ROUTE 1. Look for signs with GOZO and a [1] in a blue sign!
FERRY
----------
The ferry itself is a "turn up & go" service with a seasonal timetable - best to check www.gozochannel.com for the timetable in operation. The transfer takes about 25mins and takes you past the miniature island of Comino into Gozo's Mgarr harbour. Look out for the caves and Blue Lagoon - wonderful camera opportunities.
Fares depend on whether you are going by foot /by car - again best to check http://www.gozochannel.com/ for the fares. Car & 4 adults will be about €30 - this is a RETURN fare (assuming of course you'll want to go home...)
LAST STRETCH
----------------------
So you made it to Mgarr! Now depending how you did this, then your last challenge is to make it to MARSALFORN. If you're in a hire car, follow the signs to Victoria, and follow the main road into the "city" itself. Easiest route is to head straight up the main street to the central cross roads, and turn right. This road will take you all the way into Marsalforn itself. Never mind the tarmac - just drive on the shady side if its getting too warm. And drop your drivers window, hang your arm out, and enjoy the driving style of the Gozitans. Dont expect to travel at light speed - it takes about 10 mins to go ANYWHERE in Gozo -think 25mph max anywhere (!)
If you have booked a taxi service (from the airport in Malta) - they can sort this all the way.
