The Island of Gozo region
Gozo is a small Island so by car you can travel to any destination in 15 mins. Gozo has 35 miles of varied and spectacular coastline. Its rural landscape has hills, deep valleys and rugged cliffs giving natural shelter to the island's small harbours and inlets.
And life ambles along, centred around the small farming and fishing communities here. Privacy and seclusion are of course easy to find - and the baroque architecture you'll find in many of the of the small villages adds charm to the leisurely way of life.
Gozo has stable weather conditions - warm in winter, hot in summer. In springtime the valleys are carpeted in wild flowers (which help to distract attention from the heat); July and August are the months for fiestas: every village puts on lavish celebrations in honour of their patron saints
Seaside restaurants will serve you fish caught only hours before, alongside fresh vegetables locally grown and delicious Gozo bread. Together with a bottle of local wine, you can expect to pay around €13.00 for a substantial meal. For lunch or a snack, the Italian influence of pizza and pasta are of excellent quality or try the local specialities - Timpana and Bragioli. >
Even though Gozo is pretty small, there are a certain number of small shops, mini-markets and lately some renowned European chain outlets have also opened in Gozo. In Victoria's main square, (Just 10 min drive by bus) Pjazza Indipendenza, is a traditional open market. Shops generally open Monday to Fridays between 08:00 – 12:30 and 16:00 – 19:00. Saturdays, most shops open only till 12:00. Look out for Gozo Lace and Gozo Glass
