The Marrakech / Essaouira / Marrakech Region

Marrakech known as the "Red City", is the former imperial city in Morocco. Like many North African and Middle Eastern cities, Marrakech comprises both an old fortified city (the médina) and an adjacent modern city (called Gueliz). Marrakech has the largest traditional market (souk) in Morocco and also has one of the busiest squares in Africa and the world, Jemaa el Fna. The square bustles with acrobats, story-tellers, water sellers, dancers, and musicians. By night, the square turns into food stalls, becoming a huge open-air restaurant with busy life.

Marrakech is ideal as a home base to visit the valley of the Ourika River in the Atlas Mountains or the valley of the Draa River in the south near the Sahara desert, but also to Middle Atlas Mountains: Waterfalls of Beni Mellal, and to Essaouira on the Atlantic ocean.

Marrakech City / Medina area

Marrakech is an exotic city that at first seems a little overwhelming but soon you relax into a different and very welcoming culture.

Marrakech is as much an experience as a place, offering food, music, sights, sounds and smells you may never experienced before. From the tiny streets and souks of the old médina, to the wide boulevards of the modern Guéliz, there is something here for everyone and every day turns into an adventure.

There are 5 guest bedrooms. Another can be configured with either 2 twin beds (80 cm x 190) or one queen size (160 cm x 190). The other first floor bedroom has a full bed (140 cm x 190 cm) and a full long, deep bathtub. All bedrooms rooms have AC / heat, closet with shelves and closet with hangers. The linen is fine 100% Egyptian cotton, 550 count for queen and full beds, 300 count for twin.

Each room is decorated with hand loomed Berber carpets and artifacts from regions of the Atlas Mountains. With our initial "soft" opening in May we are offering special opening rates to all our guests. Nearly all furnishings are hand crafted, so we are continually having things delivered as they are finished.

Within the courtyard is the bhou, a comfortable sitting area to read... write... eat... or have Moroccan tea. Relax in the salon listening to the selection of North African music or dine by the fireplace in the cooler months. The courtyard, naturally shady and cool during the hot months is perfect for breakfast or tea. On the terrace, views of Ali Ben Youssef Mosque and peeks of the Atlas Mountains by day; by night the rising steam from Jemaa el Fna . Choose between the Moroccan sofa and traditional Berber sitting area or at the zellige tables under the Berber inspired umbrella for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Lounge under the magnificent Moroccan sun for a healthy dose of vitamin D. Or just relax with light appetizers and drinks before sunset and watch the strokes fly by.

Riad Ma'ab has free WiFi Internet access, iPod docking station on request , an iron for those who have to and easy phone access to the U.S., U.K., Ireland, France, Italy, and Spain at a minimal charge. No TV's by design.

We use 100% ecological cleaning products and washing detergents at the riad. No artificial fragrances. Natural Maroc incense, unscented candles, fragrant flowers and spices fill the air. The cuisine is stocked with 2 cooking oils... olive oil and argan oil. Fresh local produce and proteins are sourced for the best quality. Meals are Berber inspired; simple, fresh and delicious. Vegan and vegetarian meals are no problem. We are happy to provide Moroccan wines.

Houssain and Sara are on staff and will make you feel at home during your stay. For your service and assistance the riad is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Guestbook for Riad Ma'ab Courtyard Home

"Your riad is breathtakingly beautiful and we will definitely stay there again. For us the customer service is as important as the accommodation and we would rate Riad Ma'ab as 10/10 for both."
J.M. Buckinghamshire, UK

"Riad Ma'ab is an elegant, tranquil oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. Set back in a quiet residential street inside the Medina, yet within a five-minute walk to the souks and Jemaa El-Fna Town Square. We stayed at Riad Ma'ab prior to the official opening so everything was brand new. The owners, John and Cindy, rebuilt the Riad during a three-year span that has resulted in a beautiful home away from home for the tired traveler."
V. & S. Lessinger, Hermosa Beach, CA USA

"Being here at Riad Ma'ab was good for the mind and body! It's definitely a place to which one returns" Ruben & Chris, The Netherlands

"Well your riad certainly lives up to its name! I had a terrific nights sleep+10 hours, I can't recall when I last did that! ..." P.B. Portugal
