The Marrakech / Essaouira / Marrakech Region

Snake charmers sit outside refined palaces, riotous marketplaces sell all kinds of wares, and the mysterious Medina (old town) contains nearly two miles of secret passages. Mopeds, mules and Mercedes dart around, yet time seems to have slowed.

The Atlas Mountains make a thrilling day trip, while city sights include tombs, souks, palaces, mosques and baths. Marrakech has a sunny, Mediterranean climate. Spring and autumn are the ideal times to visit, with pleasant temperatures and little rain.

Marrakech City / Medina area

Marrakesh is Bicycle capital of Morocco. You can rent them on the Jma-l-Fna, the big square. Don't expect the cars to really notice bikers.

The Medina and the souqs are best explored on foot. You now and then see a car or a motorbike trying to pass through the crowded streets, but this doesn't make sense.

If you want to go to the ville nouvelle, taxi's are easily found. There is a taxi stand near the Jma-l-Fna. When a train arrives it is sometimes hard to find a taxi.

Another good option is to take a horse cart (caleche). There is a stop near the Koutoubia tower, not far from the Jma-l-Fna. Bargain hard.

At sunset, the panoramic view of the medina of Marrakech will take your breath away. The romantics can then watch the stars while the music lovers can wade their way through the vast and varied collection of CDs. Many a happy evening of beer and conversation is spent at Dar Najat.

The gastronomy is one of the many strong points of Dar Najat. Souad and Hind, our very dynamic cooks, will prepare a variety of succulent dishes for you while you relax on the terrace. In the Orient we believe that the way to the heart is through the stomach.

Breakfast is a wonderful selection of fresh fruit, fresh bread, croissants, pastries, pancakes and eggs, served with freshly-squeezed orange juice and fantastic coffee. This is offered to our guests free of charge.

Guestbook for Riad Dar Najat by black zitoun

“Fantastic Stay at the Dar Najat”
Colm_Br, London, UK16 Oct 2008
Had a fantastic stay at the Dar Najat, and it was mostly down to the welcoming atmosphere created by the owners and staff. From the moment I arrived, Oliver was the perfect host. I was treated to peppermint tea on arrival and then a guided tour of the Djemaa El Fna with two other guests. We then had coffee and chatted in a cafe on this insane (in a good way) square. When I wasn't sure of how to get home from a restaurant later on, a member of staff was so kind as to come and get me!

The decoration of the riad is stunning. The detail and the craftsmanship is something to behold - it's like something from a movie set, simply beautiful.

Breakfast is complimentary and was served whatever time I got up from bed - excellent service.

To those of you who expected everybody in the raid to be fluent in English, I suggest you pick up a phrase book and learn some French words - it's not that hard! To expect a Western experience in a riad in Marrakech is not only unrealistic, but downright rude. Get involved and embrace Marrakech for what it is.

Thanks for a great stay!

“A beautiful Oasis”
SBW12, London 26 Nov 2008
Dar Najat wins on all levels - character, comfort, location, service and peace. The Riad has been created with love and such attention to detail that you feel like you are in your home away from home while soaking up the beautiful artistic and colourful features unique to Morocco. The location is ideal, within easy walking access to all the central attractions and the best bars and restaurants. The staff couldn't have been more attentive and the food (especially breakfast) was superb. Difficult to fault this Oasis.

“Looking for a Fabulous Riad, Look no further!”
oliviaberry, Isle of Man28 Nov 2008
If you have been trawling all the websites and still cannot make up your mind whether to stay in a Riad or hotel, then please let stop you now and suggest RIAD DAR NAJAT. I have just come back from Marrakech where my boyfrend and I stayed at RIAD DAR NAJAT. It is quite simply, everything you have ever imagined it to be. An authentic house with three floors, a fabulous roof terrace and 8 bedrooms, each decorated in rich fabrics and local artwork. It actually takes you a few days to take everything in.... a delight to anyone who has an interest in other cultures. The roof terrace was a perfect place to relax in the morning sun whilst having breakfast or pre dinner drinks (Rose' is the best ) whilst listening to cool Jazz or Buddah Bar type music. Breakfast is excellent but I suggest that you book to have dinner there, as it was by far one of the best we had during our whole stay. Moo Moo (Mustafa) is always there when you need anything and Siad the local celebrity who has recently worked alongside Tom Hanks and is always there to take you through the streets to your desired Spa Retreats.( He is also a bit of eye candy for the ladies). We had a fabulous time in Marrakech, certainly helped by choosig this Fab Riad!
My only other suggestion would be, is to take some warm clothes as it is very cold a night, once the Sun has gone down!!
“fantastic, wonderful place and people”
Riad Dar Najat was our highlight of Marrakech. Oliver and his staff went out of their way to make us feel like were were home. Wonderful, beautiful rooftop patio, excellent drinks to take in the atmosphere, beautiful, quiet rooms, and the best breakfast we had in months!! It is 5 minutes from the main square tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. This was the best decision we made in our trip to Morocco.
