The Marrakech / Essaouira / Marrakech Region region
Just a 3.5 hour flight away, Morocco is one of the closest countries to the UK, where you can experience a completely different culture and a fascinating way of life. Marrakech in the south of the country, grew up as trading centre between Africa and the West, where the caravanserai (camel trains) stopped after travelling over the Atlas Mountains to trade their spices, silver and carpets.
As an Imperial City, where the King has one of his palaces, Marrakech abounds in ornate monuments, mosques, interesting museums, mansions and exotic gardens. But Marrakech is all about variety - there are snake charmers, storytellers and acrobats in the famous Djemma el Fna Square, fascinating souks (markets) to visit where you can shop and barter to you drop, as well as sophisticated shops in the French quarter of Gueliz. hustle and bustle of the city,
You can eat simply at one of the many stalls on the Square, enjoy a Moroccan feast in a Pacha's palace with bellydancing or eat at one of the many reasonably-priced cafes around town. If you fancy a swim and a meal, then there are country clubs just outside of town where you can sunbathee and soak up the sun.
When you have had enough excitment for one day and wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the city,
then you can retreat to the calm and tranquility of Dar Azure to rest and relax on the terrace. Dar Azure is situated close to the Royal Palace in the Kasbah area of the Medina, which is one of the more secure areas of the Medina.
With its idyllic location, set against the back-drop of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, its enviable sunny climate, and its vibrant colourful Medina, Marrakech makes an interesting and exciting destination at almost any time of year.
It also makes an ideal base for visiting the nearby magnificent Atlas Mountains, the charming Ourika Valley and the fascinating fishing port and wide sandy beaches of Essaouira.
