The Marrakech/Essaouira region
Just a 3.5 hour flight away, Morocco is one of the closest countries to the UK, where you can experience a completely different culture and a fascinating way of life. Marrakech in the south of the country, grew up as trading centre between Africa and the West, where the caravanserai (camel trains) stopped after travelling over the Atlas Mountains to trade their spices, silver and carpets.
As an Imperial City, where the King has one of his palaces, Marrakech abounds in ornate monuments, mosques, interesting museums, mansions and exotic gardens. But Marrakech is all about variety - there are snake charmers, storytellers and acrobats in the famous Djemma el Fna Square, fascinating souks (markets) to visit where you can shop and barter to you drop, as well as sophisticated shops in the French quarter of Gueliz. hustle and bustle of the city,
You can eat simply at one of the many stalls on the Square, enjoy a Moroccan feast in a Pacha's palace with bellydancing or eat at one of the many reasonably-priced cafes around town. If you fancy a swim and a meal, then there are country clubs just outside of town where you can sunbathee and soak up the sun.
When you have had enough excitment for one day and wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the city,
then you can retreat to the calm and tranquility of Dar Azure to rest and relax on the terrace. Dar Azure is situated close to the Royal Palace in the Kasbah area of the Medina, which is one of the more secure areas of the Medina.
With its idyllic location, set against the back-drop of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, its enviable sunny climate, and its vibrant colourful Medina, Marrakech makes an interesting and exciting destination at almost any time of year.
It also makes an ideal base for visiting the nearby magnificent Atlas Mountains, the charming Ourika Valley and the fascinating fishing port and wide sandy beaches of Essaouira.
Monuments: Koutoubia Tower, Bahia and Badi Palaces, Ben Youssef Merdersa
Museums: Dar Si Said, Marrakech Museum
Gardens:Majorelle (Yves St Laurent) Garden, Menara Gardens
Art Galleries: Matisse, Lawrence Arnott
Shops: souks in the Medina, Gueliz for interesting specialist shops
Restaurants: to suit all budgets
Martyn our local Manager can arrange day trips to the fascinating Berber villages of the nearby Atlas Mountains and Ourika Valley, to the pretty seaside fishing port and beach resort of Essaouira, as well as 3 day/2 night excursions to the Sahara desert. Details on request.

"Excellent base to explore sights and sounds of Marrakech"
Myself and 4 friends thought the Riad very well appointed, it had everything we could want for a weekend away, and more. From being picked up at the airport and transferred directly to out destination, to being met by Hassan who gave us lots of useful information about where we were and how to get around, arranging for us to have a guide on the first day to help with our bearings, to Samira our wonderful cook, who not only did breakfast each morning but cooked us a beautiful evening meal on our first night (requested). The Riad is a 20 min walk to the main square which is not noticeable as you are enthralled by the medina/souk and everything you see around. We were able to find several different routes to and from the square, so each brought us a little more flavour of Marrakech. Myself and the ladies appreciated the location of the Riad as it did allow us to be part of Marrakech, and at no time did we feel we needed to be (more) aware of our safety. The Riad was comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay, as it was in February the heating was a must as was the roof terrace while the sun shone. Marrakech was all that we hoped it would be and certainly the Riad Dar Azure helped greatly with that.

"A fantastic haven in a bustling city"
I stayed here with my girlfriend for 5 days and we have a great time!
The Riad is very spacious, and well equipped. The inside courtyard typical of a Riad, was a tranquil space, and the roof top terrace, afforded us good views, and was a lovely sun trap!
We travelled in January, so the although the days were warm, the nights were chilling. But with the Riad having A/C in all rooms, and a lovely log fire in the lounge we were never cold.
The local reps Hasan and Samira were very helpful, and helped us get the most out of our stay. The breakfast especially the mint tea, which Samira provided daily was just what you needed to start your day.
The Riad was impeccable clean, and Samira cleaned the rooms daily. We really did feel like we were in our very own hotel.
The Riad would comfortable sleep 6 people, and was very reasonable. I'm so glad we stayed in our very own little Riad, rather than a commercial hotel. The service (Samira & Hasan) was incredible, the space fantastic, and the location ideal for exploring the real Marrakech.
Would totally recommend, and already planning a trip back.

Quiet location, nice stroll from the madness of the souks, main square and relaxing gardens. Comfy beds, large showers with good water pressure, cool and relaxing patio, attractive decor, roof terrace with sun and shade. Relaxing breakfast, good coffee, lovely omlettes and fresh juiced oranges! Excellent chicken tajine, fresh fruit and chilled gris from Meknes. My 7th but favourite visit to Marrakech, have stayed in bigger, more expensive and less expensive accommodation - but from now on will ONLY return to Dar Azure. It was simply perfect.
