Home description

The house is set approx 12kms from the madness of the Marrakech medina, in the real Moroccan countryside. It is a completely tranquil retreat with views of the Atlas Mountains and the surrounding countryside. The gardens are planted with olive, lemon and peach trees and other local flowers and vegetables. Pick your own mint for your tea!

The house has its own swimming pool and approx 1 acre of gardens. You can take a walk or cycle to explore the local farm tracks that surround the house. You can easily get into Marrakech and sample the local cuisine, nightlife or souks or sights - within 15 mins. From here you can go camping in the Sahara, or visit Jimi Hendrix's favourite spot on the coast, Essouira, or hike/ski in the Atlas Mountains. Returning always to a completely tranquil home in the real rural Morocco.

The Marrakech region

Marrakech is a wonderful eclectic city full of atmosphere, colour, historical sites and wonderful food. It is another exotic world only 3 1/2 hours from most European airports. It mixes high end fashion and simple traditional ways. Seen in its nightlife, from luxurious fashionable restaurant and bar with belly dancers to the wonderful authentic simpicity of the biggest outdoor bbq in the world at Jma Al Fna. With the best souks in Morocco, historical sites, gardens designed by Yves St Laurant - to snake charmers, hammams, and henna designs. The climate is hot and dry - with over 300 days of sunshine a year. It is rarely below 15 degrees in winter; summer can be in the 40's and spring and autumn in the 20-30s.

Marrakech City / Widane area

The house is located 12kms in the countryside surrounding Marrakech with easy access to three top golf courses (10 mins), a supermarket (5 mins) and some local shops (a few mins). You can walk or cycle in the local farm tracks surrounding the house. You can also go horse-riding or camel riding. Visit a lake for some water sports; hike in the Atlas Mountains; take a trip to the Sahara; visit local farms and markets - or just relax and chill out in the peaceful countryside.

If you'd like we can organise masseurs, henna painters, cleaners, cooks, cooker classes, trips to the desert, mountains etc - please just ask.

How to get there

Easyjet.com and atlasblue.com have the best prices on flights to Marrakech from many European cities (others include Royal Air Maroc and BA). Many car hire companies have offices in Marrakech and at the airport - budget.com and europcar.com

It is a big house (400 sq m) and each very large bedroom has its own en-suite shower/bathroom. The house has been created using authentic Moroccan styles and techniques, inkeeping with its countryside location. The beautiful zellige jewel coloured tiling and tadelakt in the bathrooms (used in hammams) complements the simplicity of the house beautifully.

There is a large fireplace in the living room - and air conditioning too.

Further details outdoors:
The gardens are planted with wonderful flowers, trees and local vegetables. There is a gardener/guardian who will keep these watered and maintained. The pool is 4 x 12 meters and there are sunloungers on which to relax. Also dotted around the house are many terraces from where to dine, read a book, relax or play games. It is very rural surrounding the house, so you can explore this area whenever you like.

Further details

The house is surrounded by a secure Berber wall. Within this wall are three other houses of ours that are 80% completed. Because they are still in development, we will be charging a reduced rate for the house, and also because this will be the first time that we rent the house. There will be absolutely no building work going on if you rent the house though!

Conditions

- 30% of rental fee due 6 weeks before stay to secure booking
- because of rural nature not completely suitable for elderly/infirm
- car hire is recommended, but we can also organise for a driver
- we can also organise for a maid/cook to make breakfasts, lunches etc (approx 80 euros/week)
- if you'd like we can organise trips to hammams, the mountains, or cookery classes/henna painting.
