The Marrakech / Essaouira / Marrakech Region region
Unchanged since the Middle Ages, Marrakesh's solid ramparts encircle and protect its mysterious labyrinthine medina, which hides sultans' palaces, the ornate mansions of rich merchants, and some of the most colourful bazaars in the Arab world. The Djemaa el Fna square in Marrakech is an open-air theatre. By day it sports clusters of stalls selling fresh orange juice, plants, dried fruit and nuts. By night, it fills up with snake charmers, storytellers, belly dancers, musicians and crowds of onlookers. On one side are open air BBQs, which waft delectable meat scents across the square; on the other are rooftop cafes from which you can watch the night unfold. And all around are the souks: an overwhelming array of stalls which wind their way down narrow paths, selling a fabulous selection of leather slippers, ceramics, beautiful cowhide lamps, traditional rugs and wood carvings. Shopping here is addictive stuff. Riad Dar 'Rabia is just a 7-minute stroll from this famous sqare and the souks.Located near King Mohammed VI's palace in a well-lit, secure neighbourhood of the medina of Marrakesh. Overlooking the Mamounia Gardens, with its fabulous olive grove and orangery, the house is also in close proximity to 'Hivernage', where the majority of prestigious hotels, casinos, clubs and restaurants are to be found..The area is easily accessible by car and there is 24hr car parking nearby.
The Marrakech City / Medina area
Places to visit: Souks, Medersa ben Youssef, Dar si said, palais Bahia, Jem el fna square, Majorelle gardens and many others...
"It is the most lovely spot in the whole world." said Winston S. Churchill to Franklin D. Roosevelt about Marrakech in 1943 whilst painting in the Mamounia Gardens. Its is easy to agree, as the location of this 1000 year-old city has something for everyone.
Martyn our local Manager can arrange day trips to the fascinating Berber villages of the nearby Atlas Mountains and Ourika Valley, to the pretty seaside fishing port and beach resort of Essaouira, as well as 3 day/2 night excursions to the Sahara desert. Details on request.

We spent 7 nights at Riad dar Rabia. From the moment the door opened we were thrilled with our holiday home the photos do not do it justice, this place is a little paradise in Marrakesh. The house is really thoughtfully designed, beautifully decorated bedrooms a homely sitting area and a roof terrace that took our breath away with the view. The roof is the heart of this place, so peaceful and private. The location of the property is excellent, it is not too far from the square and other attractions. Samira was extremely helpful and recommended a great place for my birthday celebration called Comptoir, it was a really special night. She also organised our excursion to the Atlas Mountains that we thoroughly enjoyed with a very interesting guide. Only downside was the haggling in the square particularly with the henna tatoo ladies we found this a bit oppressive but all in all people were friendly and helpful. |

Thank you for a wonderful holiday at Riad Dar Rabia. The location of the house is great easy walking distance to the square and the souks. The house itself is fantastic very original design, beautifully decorated and well kept. It was very hot and we much appreciated the covered salon area on the roof terrace, it was so quiet, great to relax and unwind and get away from the noise and the heat of the city. Samira looked after us very well, serving tasty breakfasts. We loved the Moroccan dinners that she prepared and ate in twice during the week. Hassan was very helpful and gave us tips on places to visit, he organised a trip to the Atlas Mountains for the day which we thoroughly enjoyed. We certainly would come back again but next time at a cooler time of the year! |
