Home description

A centuries old English owned riad in the northern part of the Marrakech medina, Dar Zaman is located in the very authentic 'quartier' of Sidi Ben Slimane, close to the famed Dar Zellij restaurant and Dar Yacout. Tucked away at the end of a peaceful derb (cul-de-sac) away from the regular tourist trail and street noise, the neighbours are regular Marrakechis who make their homes here. Easily accessible by taxi (taxi stops 2 minutes walk from riad) and an easy 10 minute stroll to the Medersa Ben Youssef, Marrakech Museum and entrance to the main Souks area.

The Marrakech region

Marrakech, a mix of medieval and modern, an enchanted place buzzing with life. Set against the backdrop of the magnificent Atlas Mountains, its maze of honeycombed alleys glow in different tones of red as the sun moves from East to West. It is a place which floods the senses with strange and overwhelming sights, sounds and aromas, casting a strange, heady spell over the unsuspecting traveller; a place where Europe meets Africa and Arabia, where time becomes suspended, offering a glimpse of a rich and exotic past...

"A Perfect Place To Stay"
2glassesofwine - West Midlands, Mar 5, 08

Dar Zaman surpassed all expectations. After the hustle and bustle of the medina, tranquility lies behind the front door. The courtyard and the surrounding rooms are all beautiful.

We had a fabulous dinner of Morrocan salads and lamb tagine cooked by Fatima, which was served in front of an open fire on a table strewn with rose petals. Our bedroom was lovely with a very comfortable bed and always lots of hot water for a shower.

Peter is the perfect host and very good company.

Would we recommend Dar Zaman? Absolutely!

"Marrakech in real style"
Sue_PeterUK, Feb 6, 2008

What an amazing experience, the owner Peter and his delightful housekeeper Fatima are excellent hosts. We were met and treated with great friendliness every day. All our needs were catered for, and the Rhiad Dar Zaman is a special haven in the Medina of Marrakech. The rhiad is decorated and fitted out to a very high standard. It was a joy to be in. Ideally located to get into the Soukes and the new town it is well positioned as a base for exploring the city.

We cannot praise Peter and Fatima highly enough for providing us with an excellent holiday.

"Highly recommended"
H0lly72, Reading Nov 22, 2007

Am so glad I found Dar Zaman, as I randomly searched the web for accommodation in Marrakech. From the start, Peter, the owner was friendly and helpful and quick to come back to me with any queries I had about the booking. The Riad has been lovingly restored with beautiful Moroccan features, lovely bedrooms and communal areas, including a comfy sofa on the roof terrace.
Fatima, the housekeeper, is a little gem, cooking up morocan pancakes fro breakfast and yummy dinners if you chose to have a meal in the Riad. Peter is ever helpful and happy to take the pain out of organising any tours you want to go on during your stay.
Whether for a weekend or a week - this place is a treat....but don't tell everyone, or else we'll never get in!

"The tranquil Riad"
johnny03, London Sep 13, 2007

The stay at the Riad was magical. Marrakech can be so exciting but overwhelming, the Riad Dar Zaman balances this as it is so tranquil. The approach is so exciting, a maze or alleys, tunnels and pathways, then you reach the door, step inside and this calm peaceful place greets you. It has been recently refurbished to a high standard, very subtle colour tones. I have been to other riads and they can be too boudoir or in your face fussy, this one is subtle style. I felt so safe and at peace with the world. The terrace has great views. It is on the edge of the medina/ souks area so you feel like you are in the authentic, living working part of Marrakech, not the really touristy bit. Breakfast was a joy. The stay represented good value for money. The owner and Moroccan maid were so welcoming and friendly. Thoroughly reccomended.

"Charme et élégance dans un quartier authentique."
banlieue, paris Sep 13, 2007

Bravo.
